Worst sandal crime?

I wear socks with sandals. Never understood the hate for it. I think that’s the only “fashion crime” that I commit. And I have absolutely zero interest in what people think of me.

Demonstrably untrue. Socks breathe reasonably well in sandals, but not shoes.

Personally I find the nasty fritos toe nails are only marginally worse than long nails (and don’t get me started on toenails painted in the french manicure style. bleh!)

The worst crimes for me are audio:

  1. sonic boom flip flops. There are when you hear the THAP THAP THAP of the shoe.
  2. Sandals that are slides - the person walking has to shuffle in them. shuffleshuffleshuffle - For the love of God, pick up your feet!

Here’s a bad mobile pic I sneaked while I was getting my address changed on my driver’s license last summer. This is a perfect example of feet that should never see the light of day.

I voted overhang, but that sidecar bullshit is just as annoying. Just because your feet perch on the sandal without breaking your ankle doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

I was thinking about socks, but, yes, that is far worse.

As for Pleonast’s question, I covered it already in another thread. Socks defeat the purpose of sandals. They keep feet warm, don’t show the feet, and defeat the slip-on nature of sandals.

Oh, and they get rather dirty. Clothing isn’t supposed to get that dirty and still be worn.

Hey you! I feel like you haven’t been around in a while.

Men rarely have pretty feet but I’ll forgive them for sandals as long as their toenails are clean and trimmed.

blah… every post in this thread sends chills down my spine. “Sidecar toe” is the most accurate & disturbing term I’ve heard in a while… shiver.

Gaaaaah! Brain bleach, please!

Overhang just plain scares Diddy. (2nd half of clip)

Where on earth is a $15 pedicure available?

Ohio State University cosmetology training spa. I love that place.

You are not alone in this. I don’t wear white socks with them, though. I have some heathered wool ones for winter, and some tie dyed ones for cool summer evenings.

I’m not sure what socks you wear, but mine breathe well enough to keep my feet cool. I’m not sure why you call sandals slip on, none of mine are; there’s always a strap that needs to be buckled or velcro’d. And one of the main points of wearing socks in sandals is to keep my feet clean–better the sock collect dust than my skin.

And based on this thread, not showing feet is a good thing.

Hee - those are funny. “Take the picture.”

Those of you who want to wear socks with your sandals, knock yourselves out. Just know that everywhere you go, there are people judging you as someone who doesn’t know better than to wear socks with sandals. If you want to date, you might want to keep this in mind on a date - women judge men by their foot coverings (among other things).

This is a typical complaint of the fashion police. But most people don’t really care, especially those of us who prefer being practical over being fashionable.

What the hell is this?? Apparently I’ve been spared by the gods from ever seeing such a sight in real life. Those shoes are cute, but goddamn, that girl needs to go up a size/width or three before she could ever fit into them properly. That totally negates and in fact overwhelms the cuteness of the shoe.

The three reasons I gave are the reasons sandals are generally worn. They take less time to put on, allow your feet to breathe, and show off a pedicure or something like that. I’m not saying people wear them necessarily for all three reasons.

And I don’t know what types of socks you are wearing, either. Socks are so hot that they had to create a special variation to let them breathe. Unless you are maybe talking dress socks, but then that’s “wrong” for a different reason: the clash of casual with formal.

And I do know quite a few women who talk about how bad it looks–how do you think I learned it? Sandals with socks is far enough out that even non-fashionistas think it bad. Sure, there may be some people who accept it, but, in my estimation, they are the minority.

At least in my age group. Socks with sandals can only be pulled off as a hipster–bad fashion worn deliberately and over the top.

Some sandals look fine. It’s those flip flops that look disgusting.

Well, no one’s going to throw you down on the ground and rip the socks off your feet, but people notice (like pajamas in public - I’ll never approve of them, but I’m not the one wearing them). If you don’t care, then wear them in good health.
