Fructose is not a component of table sugar. Table sugar is a disacharide whose two monosacharides are glucose and glucose (yup, two of the same). Fructose is an isomer of glucose: they have the exact same composition but the atoms are organized differently.
Our body has enzimes that can turn fructose (sort of “useless” for us except as a source of glucose) into glucose; their energetic value is the same, but having to go through the isomerization process means that fructose is a “slower” sugar than glucose… it takes longer to go from the stomach to wherever the energy is needed, be it working cells or storage. The process can also happen at much-slower speeds in pH-extreme environments.

Huh. I freely admit you know more about this stuff than I do, but I thought table sugar was glucose and fructose. Wikipedia and Alton Brown, whose show on fudge-making I watched last night, seem to agree.

No, Nava is wrong. The usual form of glucose-glucose disaccharide is maltose.
BTW, glucose is a pyranose (6-member ring) while fructose is a furanose (5-member ring).

And what am I missing here? The main sudsy/cleansing ingredient in these shampoos is still sodium lauryl sulfate, the same main ingredient in every shampoo from $0.99 White Rain to $5.99 Pantene to these $28 shampoos.

Actually, here, wiki has a drawing. Count the Cs: the picture has a 5-ring but one vertice is the O; there are two hanging Cs. Total, 6 Cs. The ring structure of glucose and fructose is different - but that doesn’t make them not isomers!
Isomers: two compounds which have the same elemental composition (in this case, C[sub]6[/sub]H[sub]12[/sub]O[sub]6[/sub]), but with the atoms organized differently.
