Worst Simpsons ep.?

The one where the find the angel skeleton.

The one where they vote on the proposition to deport all the illegal immigrants.

The one where Homer gets a handgun.

Armen Tamzarian

Oh, I forgot the Tomacco episode. Totally stupid.

Every single episode from Season 10 forward. All of them.

The Cartridge Family? As worst? You people are mad!

I think Wumpus hit the nail on the head with his/her five. Unfortunately, the recent seasons have all been so bad there are now too many to choose from.

I hope ArchiveGuy is referring to the Frank Grimes, Jr. episode, not the original (one of my top five).

Everyone hates Duncan the Wonder Horse, but I thought it was ok.
Jockey: “You really think that horse can run a mile and a half?”
Homer: “He ran all the way here.”

But it was sub-par.

The Pappy and Bar move in across the street eppy. The flea market at the beginning was cute, and we did get Disco Stu out of it, but the next two acts? Pointlessly mean Bart, extra stupid Homer, and Bush could have been any old guy–no effort made to tie it to him specifically.

“Lisa the Vegetarian”-preachy even by Lisa standards.

I adored THE CRITIC and I happened to think the film festival eppy was terrific. “I was saying ‘Boo-erns’!” “The football…! His groin…! It works on so many levels!”

::skims over thread::

The Frank Grimes episode? Covered.

Furious D/“Saddlesore Galactica”? Covered.

“Any first season episode”? Yup.

“Any episode after season <blank>?” Got that.

At least one person describing a previously-mentioned episode as “one of their favorites”? Got that too.

At least one person declaring that the show may have gone downhill, but it’s still better than everything else on TV? Not yet.

At least one person castigating everyone, asking why if they hate “The Simpsons” so much, they still watch it? Oh wait, forgot that too.

So all you people that hate “The Simpsons” so much: Why are you still watching it? It may have gone downhill, but it’s still better than everything else on TV.

There, now we’ve hit all the points of a properly formatted SDMB Simpsons thread. Sheesh, like this hasn’t been done ad nauseum…

If you hate this thread so much, why did you add to it? It may not be the best thread ever but it’s better than any other thread out there today.

I usually check the Simpsons threads to see which ones I like that others hate and which other’s favorites are on my personal “worst” list. Always a few in both categories.

Anyway, the Ep. in which Krusty discovers he has a daughter came to my mind when I saw the thread title. Pointless, badly written and boring, not even a good one-liner in the show.

Krusty: You mean you’re willing to help me break into Fat Tony’s house?
Homer: For a casual acquaintance like you? Absolutely.

I thought it was pretty funny.

That’s one of my favorite episodes.

I would have to say the one where they go to Japan and have to compete in a gameshow for tickets back home.

I’m going to have to go with the Micheal Keaton ex-con who becomes an artist episode and the one from this season where Moe takes a shine to Maggie. Those are my two least favorites.

riserius:

but…that episode has a football in the groin…

A lot of bad ones have been named, the the worst was when Ned hooked up with that movie star. Total violation of his character.

Seasons 3 - 7 were pure brilliance.

Season 1 mostly sucks, because they still tried to fit morals into the stories, and Season 2 was where things started to take shape, but it didn’t reach its full potential until Season 3.

Everything from Season 10 forward is an absolute trainwreck, but I’d venture to say that the train started slipping from the tracks back in Season 8.

Even when it started getting bad, I kept watching, simply out of respect for the fact that it USED to be the best show in the history of television. Now I can’t even bare the anguish of having to watch that shit. Homer’s gone from being a hilarious idiot, to an idiot who makes you cringe with every word that comes out of his mouth.

My pick for the worst episode, Kill the Alligator and Run (i.e… the one where the Simpsons go Florida), has already been mentioned as have some of the runners-up like Saddlesore Galactica and Homer’s Web Site/“Prisoner” parody. So, I’ll add the exercise in padding that was the episode that starts with Bart digging his way to China, abruptly shifts to Moe renovating his bar (again), and ends with Homer suddenly going turkey hunting. That particular episode was a perfect demonstration of most the problems that have afflicted this series over the last few years.

I personally don’t like the episode where Homer and the guys go on a bus to the SuperBowl, only to discover that they have no actual tickets. The whole thing was written to air after the SuperBowl, obviously, and therefore, isn’t quite up to the show’s usual caliber. It seems to me that around season 8 is when South Park and other shows began to seriously compete with it in the area of social satire. That could explain the apparent decline.

Today’s rerun was the one in which a Judge Judy lookalike sentences Homer and Bart to be tethered together. As soon as I saw the first few minutes I thought of this thread. Could it stay that bad for the whole episode so I could post here or would it start getting funny and ruin everything?

But no. It got worse. And worse and worse. Dismal. Putrid. Rotten. Execrable. Heinlein-bad. (Sorry, Fenris. Haven’t seen you around for a while.)

And the ending was just idiotic.

So there we have it. The worst episode ever. Badder than bad.

I’m sick just thinking about it.

Homer get a handgun?
Furious D?
Tomacco?

These are some of my favorites… I must be hopelessly out of touch.

My vote for worst would go to the one where Patti and McClure got married.

There is no way that the episode that featured The Planet of the Apes: The Musical could be one of the worst.

I always thought Poochie was the worst (an dit is even the episode where I get my name), but I have to go with Saddlesore Galactica and the Principal and the Pauper
