Best, and worst, Simpsons episodes (ever)?

The title says it all, really. Which Simpsons episode was the best one ever, and which one was the worst?

Best

I’ve always been partial to ‘You only move twice’ myself. The episode where Homer goes to work for the Bond villain

Worst

Any number of the newer episodes which seem to be competing with each other for most disjointed surreal crap ever.

The “prank monkey” episode comes to mind as being particularly unsatisfying.

Best:

The one with the teacher’s strike.

Worst:

Any one centered around a celebrity guest appearance: Mel Gibson etc. Sometimes the appearance ruins an otherwise acceptable show. For example, ‘New Kids on the Bleech’ was funny, but was ruined by the inclusion of N’Sync (or whatever the hell boy band that was).

I think the boy band episode was excellent. It even made me hate N’Sync a little less.
Yvan eht nioj!

When Bart got his fake drivers license and road tripped to the Knoxville worlds fair is my personal favorite (remember, we’re parked under the sun sphere).

Much like there’s no such thing as bad pizza, I’ve never disliked an episode of The Simpsons. Best show in the history of television.

The one where the Simpsons go to Japan never fails to have me rolling on the floor cracking up, and I also love the one where Homer starts smoking pot after his pet crows damage his eyes by pecking.

With so many episodes its tough to call both, but for best I’ve got to go with Homer the Heretic since it hits all the notes that made the series great. It’s clever, original, irreverent, and witty. As for worst, I’ve got to go with the Regina Monologs for being everything that has made the Simpsons not worth watching any more: repeditive, predictable, dull, and beating the same jokes into the ground time and time again. There may be worse but I’ve stopped watching regularly.

Best: X-Files

Worst: Any one I’ve seen in the last three seasons or so. Last night’s sucked like an Elextrolux, but it was no worse than any other recent one…

Best Frank Grimes

Wost: Much as I like Glenn Close (think Garp & Sunset Blvd) the whole “Mother Simpson” thing is awful

Best: Another vote for Frank Grimes.

Worst: The one with the horrible ending where Homer steals Springfield’s Christmas presents like the Grinch.

Best:

Hard to say, but the Sideshow Bob Cape Fear episode comes to mind.

Worst:

After trying to watch last night, and turning it off becaus the episode was just BORING, and having taped and suffered through several others this season I would have to say that the worst episode changes from week to week as new ones air.

Best: Summer of 4’2". The one where they go to Flanders’ beach house and Lisa becomes friends with the cool kids. So many of my favorite lines are in that one…

“Well, I have been eating more.”
“I don’t know what you’ve got planned for tonight Homer, but count me out.”
"Sweet merciful crap! My car!

Worst: Sooooo many to choose from in recent years. I’ll second Snoooopy’s nomination of Prank Monkey, and also throw out the Tomacco episode for consideration.

My personal favorite is “23 Short Films About Springfield.”, but there are nine or ten episodes that are right up there, including “Treehouse of Horror V”, “Last Exit to Springfield,” and “You Only Move Twice.”

The worst has got to be the horse racing one with the jockeys living underground. Ugh. Season 10 was the nadir of the Simpsons. The new season has been pretty good. Not as great as the Golden Age, but pretty good.

Two words–“Jessica Lovejoy”.

My second best is the Cecil Terwilliger episode. I love every Sideshow Bob except the one where he hypnotizes Bart to kill Krusty. That was lame.

Best Episode: One of three episodes- Cape Feare or Deep Space Homer or El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer.

Worst Episode: The second one with Homers mother.

So many good choices have already been presented, but a personal favourite I haven’t heard yet is “And Maggie makes Three,” the episode where Homer has to explain why there are no pictures of Maggie in the family photo album. Lots of great gags, and the ending is sweet and touching.

and, of course…
Monorail!
Monoraaaaaillll!

Amen to the World’s Fair episode, for one of the all-time great lines: when they’re driving through Branson, Missouri, and Bart explains, “My dad says it’s what Vegas would be like, if Ned Flanders were in charge of it”.

Really, though, there are too many great episodes for me to narrow it down to one – as Mark Twain said about his Beethoven symphony, my favorite Simpsons episode is the last one I watched.

Best: I got nothing that hasn’t been mentioned before: Cape Feare; Monorail; Last Exit. I liked Tomacco.

Worst: A Milhouse Divided; The Principle and the Pauper.

I love the lobster episode. That was awesome. But so were the X-Files spoof, the one with Dr. Zaius, the one where Homer finally meets his mom… I can go on and on!
