Worst Simpsons episodes

Indeed; that was quite possibly the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen on the Simpsons. And even aside from that, the episode was further removed from reality than The Simpsons usually is. A bad episode, that had some potential to be a decent one.

But it is so prescient.

Chesty La Rue, Busty St. Clair, or Hootie McBoob.

That was from Homer to the Max. The one you are referring to is Large Marge.

Huh. I thought it was the best episode I had seen in a long time. It was very far removed from horrible to me.

It would not have been out of place in Treehouse of Horror. Instead, it was very creepy, especially the end credits. It had the potential to be an excellent part of a Treehouse of Horror episode.

The Scorpion’s Tale goes well after seeing Bye Bye Nerdie.

I saw this thread was back on the front page and I came in here to say this exact thing. I thought this episode was HORRIBLE! The eye thing was way too cartoony and stupid for the Simpsons, and I greatly agree with everyone who said it would have been a better Tree house episode than a regular.

Speaking of Treehouse of Horror, what about the ones with all the zombies?

Ugh. Scorpion’s Tale started off as an interesting episode, and the eyeball stuff in the last act was disgusting and not funny at all. It was like The Bob Next Door if they’d spent eight or 10 straight minutes slicing people’s faces off. I don’t know if it’s the worst episode but it ranks very low on my list.

It just wouldn’t have happened in the earliest seasons.

There was a rule Groening enforced that there wouldn’t be any “cartoonish” sight gags. Most, if not all, the humor in the first few seasons was at about sit-com level. There were unbelievable premises, but there was little that wouldn’t have been feasible with live actors.

Basically, the show started out in the days when all animation was for kids, and the creators wanted to distance themselves from kids’ shows. As it became acceptable for adults to watch animated shows, the physically impossible sight gags started to appear.

Now, there’s hardly an episode where you don’t see one. It’s one of the reasons I’ve lost some of my enjoyment with the series.

This should be the official picture of this thread.

Zombie Simpsons Thread

Which one?

“Dial ‘Z’ For Zombies,” “The Homega Man,” “The Fright to Creep and Scare Harms,” “How to Get Ahead in Dead-vertising” or “Don’t Have a Cow, Mankind”?

Homega Man was about mutants.

Hardly a great episode, but I wasn’t as bothered as everyone else seems to be by the eyeball stuff, even though I usually have a low tolerance for that kind of thing. The scene with the scorpions made it pay off (although they still didn’t show enough eyes popping out of the scorpions–I think they were shown with only four eyes each). I got a chuckle out of “grinning like a Swede on payday.” Also Skinner’s mother using a nursing bra to keep her eyes in. And being a Mahler fanatic, I loved the appearance of the first symphony in the “happy seniors” scene.
