Would I Survive A Nuke

Fun website. You can pick from Fatman 18kt (Nagasaki) up to Dinosaur ending meteor. It will tell you, base on your location, if you can survive.

BTW: Can someone tell me what the different color circles mean?

Well, the second circle is:

I infer that the innermost circle is probably for those killed instantly.

Huhn… I thought for sure I lived close enough to all sorts of bases that I’d be crisped pretty quickly. Seems I’ll live a couple of weeks with second degree burns before the radiation gets me.

In the unlikely event that they nuke Indianapolis, I’m far enough away (in Bloomington) that I would be “ok”, according to that site. Even if all the major cities nearby - Louisville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis - were nuked, I would be ok, apparently. Since nobody cares about these cities, the odds are pretty low that they’d be hit anyway. New York, DC, LA and Chicago are probably the highest risk.

Anything 1 megaton or smaller, and I’m good.

Just one city, anything other than “Dinosaur ending megaton”, and I’ll survive. But I like what it says… “But would you want to?”

Yes, that applies even now, as I’m in the middle of nowhere!

Its premises are a little silly. Yes, there has been a fifty megaton bomb in existence. But why would anyone target Rochester, NY with one?

Coast Guard detatchment?

What is full of crap is they have no way of pinpointing the bases they go by city targets. I put forth that while Whoopie Tech may have a baby reactor, SubBase NLON Groton CT is* a target as it is the northern East Coast sub pen and would definitely get at least one round shot at it.

The outer circle is

Meh. I’m out in the boonies. Food delivery will be disrupted, but I can fish and farm, and there’s lots of fresh water.

I live in central London. Boom! We’re gone!

I picked the peacekeeper 350 kt canned sunshine, and supposedly I survive as they have Toronto as the prime target. I’m about 50 miles north of Toronto, but they fail to take into concideration, that twenty minutes away is CF base, and about a hundred miles or so more north, is Norad north. In a little town of North Bay.

Me thinks someones target planning sucks.

Declan

I’m kind of wondering why it assumes that a dino-killer meteor would be targeted on the nearest major city to me.

There are people alive today that were less than half a mile from the blasts in Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

If you wanna see how fucked London would really be in a nuclear war check out this short documentary, A Guide To Armageddon.

That’s quite pretty.

Have you ever watched Threads? You need to watch the whole thing, but everyone I know who’s watched it all has gone “… … …”

I’m in Qadgop’s neck of the woods, perhaps even farther into the sticks. Apparently it’ll take a K-T event to kill me.

Numerous times. I had wanted to see it for years and a friend of mine was house sitting and the owner had a VHS copy which I got a loan of. I’ve more recently watched it on google video or youtube where it’s posted in its entirety.

Because. The aliens, man. They wield meteors like slingshots and hit all the major world cities and landmarks first.
