Trumpfans and the rest of the world live in totally separate Twitter worlds, research shows.. So all the news that reaches us, and outrages us, never reaches Trumps loyal following. They filter the world through Trumps Twitter feed.
Has anyone spent some money on reaching Trumps twitter followers with some accurate information, but tailored to their style of communication?
It is hard to see who would make money off doing that, as things are now. The Dems are not in election mode, and missed the chance to do twitter ads last cycle. Mainstream media have nothing to gain by sending out their news at a cost to themselves, and anyway if, for instance, the Washington Post would be recognizable as the sender of the ad, a Trump follower would immediately discredit their info anyway.
So Trump basically has no opposition wiht his followers on Twitter. No wonder his core groups is unaffected by each and every new scandal.
Can you list scandals Trump supporters don’t know about? If you visit their communities I think you’ll find they’re fairly aware of liberal accusations against Trump. If you doubt it, try sharing some with them and see what happens.
His supporters are completely immune from information from outside the bubble. They seriously think that Obama and Hillary should be in prison. They have unshakable loyalty and a group think mentality that Kim Jong Un can only dream of. You simply cannot inform them, they do not want to be informed, they think that their hero has all the answers to everything and if you don’t worship the ground that he walks on, you are un-American. Pearls unto swine and all that.
Would paid Twitter ads influence you to see Trump as a great man ably championing the interests of America’s law-abiding citizens? I don’t think paid Twitter ads would influence me to see Trump that way – and so I don’t much see why such ads would be especially effective against anyone else.
I think it could be done, but the ads would have to be extremely [del]insidious, manipulative, and[/del] subtle. They couldn’t be blatant or challenging. And they could not speak to logic, fact, or intellect. They couldn’t be wordy. They could not attack Trump or imply that he has betrayed them. They can’t trigger the defensive shields; they would have to sneak under and around the shields. The ads philosophically would need to seem like “they are coming from inside the house!”
Think about how the most successful ads work. They tap into a deep emotional vulnerability. They strike at the heart and below the belt (especially the latter). They promise you the thing that you desperately want, even if you can’t admit to yourself that you want it.
It would be an exciting, challenging project for a writer. Where is Don Draper when we need him?? I think it could be done, and frankly, it’s a great idea.
I’m not a Trump supporter, but’s what’s with this “us” stuff? And you are making an odd assumption that people only get their news from Twitter (see emphasis added). When your assumptions are wrong, you can’t expect your conclusions to be correct.
For many people, I think that’s much of the appeal of a hypothesis like this. It lets someone feel like he’s smarter and less susceptible to influence than the people with whom he disagrees.
"Hello Stupids! Only lameos support the idiot Trump. Get with it, don’t be left behind with a loser: go to imwithher/hilclint.info for the real scoop!"
I meant the message should be subtle (manipulative and insidious). The content/format should absolutely be garish and flashy. The message must seem *to be coming from inside the house. *
I am an advertiser’s dream. I willingly and happily fall for a certain kind of ad. I enjoy the feeling of surrendering to the seduction of an ad that some clever copywriter has magically targeted at my wounded, striving soul.
I think it would be extremely interesting to see ads/headlines created by liberals to try and target conservatives and vice-versa. Everyone seems to have a good handle on what they think makes the other side tick
