At Fark and somethingawful (other places too, I’m sure,) there are Photoshop contests. I’m sure you’re all familiar with these – someone will suggest a topic or source picture, and people edit until hilarity ensues.
But I think we’re smarter than them. No–I don’t think I could do better than the Farkers. But I think that overall we could do a great job, all while having the self-control to avoid Ackbar and his kind.
Would this be a good idea? How could it be done–obviously not on the board itself; is there an appropriate alternative?
It’d be too difficult to coordinate. We can’t post images in threads. My god, as slow as threads load sometime, imagine trying to load images, too. Especially on dialup. Everyone who’d want to participate would have to find an imagehost or host it themselves and eat the bandwidth.
Ah… sometimes the Ackbar/Domokun/Mustard Guy/3 Stuntaz cliche photoshops are the most hysterical!
I mean, sometimes they’re just the lamest ones there, but other times, it’s really funny and ingenious how people manage to stick them into a photoshop.
I think we might do better occasionally starting a thread to flog a particular photoshop contest on Fark or Somethingawful.
The Bayeux Tapestry ones on both of them had me laughing until I hurt the other day!
Fark ps are sometimes amazing. Lots of these people are pro graphics folks with too much time on their hands. It would be very hard to beat much of the good stuff you see on fark.
