Would this be legal?

Suppose I thought that the laws prohibiting liquor sales after 2 AM was silly. Now suppose I owned a bar and wanted to try to get around these laws and make a buck in the process. Could I legally sell my patrons coolers full of beer and ice at 1:59 and let them sit there and drink it until the sun comes up?

no.

That’s why bars take your liquor and make you leave @ 2:00.

With liquor stores, at least in Colorado, it is illegal to consume liquor on the premises.

Again, only speaking of course for CO, some bars allow you to remain on the premises here after 2:00A, but the liquor must be OFF the tables @ 2:00 AM.

I did have a boss, however, that used to take advantage of the autumn daylight savings change to serve liquor for an extra hour. This, technically, was also illegal as the time change is set to 2:00 AM just to prevent this sort of thing. The clocks are supposed to be set back after the bar is closed.

Different localities have different laws. In most of Louisiana, the bars must stop serving at 2am and you have to leave by 2:30am. In New Orleans however the bars don’t close. Also, I think in most areas, the bartender must open the beer. Trying to sell a cooler full of unopened beer is not legal for a bar; only a liquor store can sell packaged liquor.

neutron star, without knowing your country, city & state, its impossible to answer your question. Plus, after you do mention that, we have to type it all over again. But give us that info anyway.

Lafayette, LA. Says so in my profile. But that’s not really important since I don’t own a bar. I was just wondering about the laws regarding this in general.
