Thirty years ago some wise-guy chemist predicted that by the 21st century (what with computers and all) left-hand sugar, or L-sugar, with a molecular structure the mirror image of right-hand sugar, would have been invented.
L-sugar would pass through the body untouched. Diebetics could stuff their faces with chocolate cake with no ill effects.
I suspect Coke and Pepsi, in some smoke-filled back room, put a stop to that toot sweet to keep the price of their diet drinks sky high and forever climbing.
