I would. Save a lot of time.
I was wondering the same thing…

No. It wouldn’t be satisfying. We’re meant to consume food the old fashioned way–we’d still have the urge to eat, even though we’d gotten all our nutrients. Very bad, that.
 No way, you fool !!!
90% of the time, yes. As long as it kept me from getting hungry, too. I’m sure every now and then I’d want to sit down and eat a real meal with friends or something, but most of the time, it’s just a pain in the butt.
Ages and ages ago, when I was but a pup on these boards, I asked the question in GQ:
Why don’t they make People Kibble?
Later on, there was a spinoff thread in IMHO about it as well.
I’m still waiting for it.
No thanks. I like the experience of eating too much. The smells, the flavors, the temperatures, the textures… wonderful stuff. Eliminating the process of eating takes all the fun out of taking in nutrients.
The process of preparing food is also enjoyable, and if the results are good, quite rewarding.
Losing out on that isn’t worth the time savings (what, an hour, tops?).
I love food, but there are a lot of times when it would be great to just make the hungries (or the low-blood-sugar-shakies) go away so I could concentrate on something else.
I agree with Angel of the Lord; while this pill might work for diet freaks who go days without eating, I like eating a lot, I don’t diet and I am still tall and skinny… I think even fat people (who are fat because they like eating) wouldn’t find the pill sufficient
Sometimes I wish we could eat forever without ever getting full, since eating is so darn pleasing! Maybe they’ll have some sort of virtual reality thing for that someday.
I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to just eat a pill to make the hungries go away. I can always find time to sit down and enjoy a meal.
No; if natural food was actually somehow abolished or otherwise unavailable and the only form of sustenance was in pill form, there’s a fair chance I would starve to death.
I would. Preparing, cooking, cleaning, the actual act of eating all bore me (yeah, i know, weird). If there was someway to gain sustenance without actually having to do anything…well that appeals to my inner sense of lethargy quite well.
I would. If you had to live off my cooking for more than a week you’d agree with me, too.
I wonder how cheap these pills would be?
I would take the red pill.
I mean yes, I would eat food in pill-form, but not predominantly. I love all parts of eating, but I would love to have something to just pop for a fast balanced breakfast. It would have to give me a “full-feeling” tho.
While you are at it, make a pill that gives me the “full-feeling” while providing just slightly less nutrition (or at least calories) than I need for that meal. Instant diet
You know, thats a great idea and my school has this famous nutritionist here. I’m gonna e-mail her and ask. Get back to you guys.
Personally, I need to gain weight. I’d take the pill in addition to eating a meal.
No. Food is too fun to eat. Sure, there are times when I’m hungry but can’t think of a single food that appeals to me. In instances like that, it would be cool to deal with, but the simple act of eating is great, and it’s also a big social deal too. How many times do you get together with friends for lunch, and the like? And what would a “dinner and movie” date be without the “dinner”. I’m all for spending lots of time alone with someone I like in a dark room, but it doesn’t leave much time for conversation, no?
I agree with Helena. I get hungry every three hours or so, and it’s a pain in the butt to make sure that I always have food with me so I don’t get all crappy feeling. If I could just take a pill to get me through the afternoon, I’d be all over it.
I would a lot of the time. Presumably you would be able to get pills meeting different dietary requirements, which could be a lot easier than making food to meet those. Such as, if you’re trying to gain muscle and trying to get something like 2 g of protein per pound per day, it would be a lot easier to take a pill than to eat steaks and protein shakes a few times a day. Plus you could make it have the right proportion of fat, carbs, etc.
But I couldn’t do it ALL the time. Maybe I’d eat regular food on the weekend. But the problem there is that your stomach would have shrunk so much that you wouldn’t be able to eat very much (maybe a good thing?)
Oh, you’d have to make the pills cheap enough for me to want to buy them, too.
I actually knew a guy in grad school who lived of of nutrient powders he mixed himself, along with fresh-baked bread for bulk and roughage. I saw his apartment – he had no other food in his kitchen (he used the stove mainly for building electronics projects). It’s the closest I’ve seen to the “living off pills” ideal. So, yeah, some people would do it.
Not me, though. I’m not sure I’d sell out to The Matrix for a steak dinner, but it’s be a tough call.
