Would you be bionic?

I’d go for it in a heartbeat if they’re maintenance-free, or at least as maintenance-free as my existing parts. I’d be leery of getting a body that would require periodic tuneups at someone else’s hands.

Absolutely. I’m a mechanical engineer, and I’ve got many plans (all in my head for the moment) for devices to help myself out when I get old. My dad died basically because he was too proud to use a walker. At age 89 he fell and broke his hip, which began a rapid downward spiral of complications and infections which resulted in his death a few weeks later. Also I’ve seen enough relatives and older friends in nursing homes to realize that I’ve got to take responsibility to keep myself out of those places for as long as possible. My electromechanical devices will be a big part of maintaining my freedom and independence.

I’ll be first on line for a skullgun.

if it altered my appearance detrimentally, no. I like looking like me. I also wouldn’t do it until many many people had gone before me and I was convinced by years of precedent that it was totally safe. these would be man-made, mechanical parts which are, at least currently, prone to breakage or loss of function. we certainly aren’t at a point where I would trust any machine to do the job of keeping me alive day-to-day unless it’s my only option.
