Would you be too chicken to try this?

At that price, I might be willing to take a small nibble, swish it in my mouth just a bit, spit it into a small bowl and make a comment about the bouquet.

“Hints of ‘plum’ and ‘toast.’”

Try? Yes.

Regularly buy or eat it? Not until it is both better and cheaper than the real thing. And chicken is cheap as hell, so I don’t imagine I’ll be eating vat meat with any regularity any time soon.

I’d have no problem trying it. My understanding is that lab grown meat, which generally has zero fat, is not anywhere near as tasty as the real thing, but it’s not poison.

Vegetarian meat alternatives are frequently more expensive than real meat, and gluten free things are more expensive than regular, so I’d be willing to pay more. Not a ridiculous amount more. I’d want to encourage the industry. I may eat meat, but I’m not totally heartless about how animals are raised, and wouldn’t mind seeing a decline in regular meat farming.

I have tried a lot of squirrely food items (including actual squirrel) and would certainly give it a go.

Do I have to be first?

Hmmm… How about lab grown cock?

What a revolting idea.

Is it from Bristol?

I’d try it. Although I wouldn’t expect it to be very good, for reasons already stated.

I’d try that too.

I remember an experiment where I needed to measure the total fat content of mouse carcasses. It was supposedly easier to get complete extraction if they were cooked first, to break down the tissue. So, being lazy, I put each carcass in a jar and ran them through the autoclave after-hours. They smelled quite tasty.*

  • no, I did not taste them - god knows what kinds of toxic chemicals had previously been in the lab glassware, and plus it would have wrecked the experiment.

Oh, of course I’d try it. Fried chicken is my jam. Fried not-chicken could be my jam in my old age.

I’d eat vat-grown human meat. I’d eat vat-grown human meat cultured from my own cells. Bring on the ChickieNobs.

Also, follow the link in Excalibre’s quote in my sig.

If somebody else is eating it, I’ll try it too. I’ve eaten street-market food in over a hundred countries. Never had anything I didn’t like.

Ian Smith? What, were they fresh out of Crock Pot Pol, Laban Immo Bokassa, and Prairie-Style John Diefenburgers?
