Would you fly on Allegiant Airlines?

After the recent ‘60-Minutes’ episode revealing the less than par safety culture, there is no way I ever would.

In fact, I never even considered it before anyway. I don’t use price as a factor when choosing the company I use when it comes to something like air travel.

Would you, or have you flown, on an Allegiant plane? What was your experience like, if so?

Heh, I think I’ll be flying Allegiant in September. My son is getting married in Florida, and so far, Allegiant looks like the cheapest ticket for me.

When I fly, price is my primary determinant. I figure it will be miserable no matter which airline I “choose” (in reality there is often no choice). I fly whoever is cheapest and have not plummeted from the sky yet.

Still probably safer than driving.

I don’t think they fly out of DCA. And if they did, it would be in the wrong terminal, which takes longer to get to. My time is valuable. Reliability counts too. They sound the same or worse than airlines I already avoid, so I probably wouldn’t fly them.

I’d honestly never heard of them before the recent kerfuffle. But no, if they showed up on a search today I wouldn’t buy a ticket.

Since this is asking for personal opinions, let’s move it to IMHO.

Understandable, but what do you mean there is often no choice?

things like theres only one airline at your airport that goes to your specific location … and they only go there on the 2nd and 4th Thursday …I once spent 3 weeks in a place that I had 1 3 hour meeting because of that …

I have used them for a ridiculously low price from northern Colorado (there is an airport between Loveland and Ft. Collins) to Vegas.

I would now probably not choose them unless they made major changes. their attitude towards safety seems pretty damned casual - what else might be wrong that we don’t know about?

and thinking “at least it’s safer than driving” in the last minutes before the crash is probably not at all helpful.

Flying out of Pittsburgh International, to the places I tend to go, on the day I need to fly, there is often only a single airline that fills my needs. Pittsburgh fucking sucks as a city to fly out of. And unless I’m headed to Charlotte or Atlanta I know I won’t be flying nonstop.

Only if super cheap.

I flew Allegiant this past February, and I have no complaints as far as safety goes, but it did seem to be more “no frills” than it should’ve been.

For example, the interior of the plane reminded me of a lot of grocery stores now in their decoration (stores show the ventilation ductwork, and the girders ceiling tiles would attach to, in an effort to say, “See? We’re not using extra materials, and passing those savings on to you!”).

There was no first class, no movie or screens in the seats, and you had to pay for water and soft drinks (which wasn’t a big deal to me, just a little surprising).

There were no problems with safety on either flight to/from, we took off pretty much on time, and both flights were non-stop.

Would I fly Allegiant again? It probably wouldn’t be my first choice, but if it worked out (price, scheduling, etc.) I probably would.

If you’re scared then it will help keep the prices low for everyone who is more rational.

It’s important to know that most of Allegiant’s flights do not crash.

And if the pilot ever suffers a heart attack, the flight attendants are quite capable of handling the take-off with help from ATC.

Aeroflot never crashed. Inside the Soviet Union.

The thing to know about Allegiant, Spirit, JetBlue and the other low cost airlines is that if your flight is cancelled or you miss a connection they will ONLY put you on another flight on their airline. If they have no other flights that day or no room on the flight the next day, you are free to buy a ticket on another airline but Allegiant won’t help you out. For some destinations with limited flights this could be a major hassle in case of bad weather or other delays.

Southwest has had two terrifying incidents in the past three weeks. Has anyone canceled their reservation because of them?

I’ve ridden Allegient, oh, 6 or 7 times and it’s been a perfectly fine experience every time. The only reason I stopped is because I eventually moved to the place I was always travelling to. If the time came, I would ride them again any day of the week (Usually Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s

Price is seldom a consideration when we fly, so no, I wouldn’t set foot on one of their airplanes.

They have a known issue. Until the issue is resolved, there are other alternatives to flying with them. It seems perfectly rational to make that choice to me.
