Would you go to see a musical about a pedophile? Not even if it had great tunes?

Love Jerry

I guess it would have to depend on the whole package, as a rule I wait for positive word-of-mouth and reviews first, rather than pay to see any theater or film performance “cold”. With this subject matter it had better be deep and moving and touching ( :o no, not in that sense, you clowns…).

Lotsa Luck, though, getting this one going to the point any word-of-mouth is generated; I suspect a large part of the public (not necessarily the theater-goers, the general public) just won’t get much past the idea of “a musical about a pedophile” before becoming scandalized and irate and unwilling to hear any defense of it.

Provided that the musical receives good reviews, I would probably be more interested in seeing it than any other equally well-rated musical. Personally, I think that pedophilia is a very serious disease and those who suffer from it need to be treated with some degree of compassion, rather than just the knee-jerk hatred that many direct towards pedophiles. Of course, having never had a pedophile hurt anyone that I cared for, I cannot guarantee that I would be so objective if such an awful thing came to pass.

On a slightly related note, The Woodsman is one of the better movies I’ve seen in the past year.
