I don’t want a paper receipt for anything. What I would like is an emailed receipt, like I can get from Home Depot and a few other retailers.
I do want my receipt as I am tracking my monthly spending.
If I pay by card yes. If it’s a minor cash purchase, then no.
Nowadays, I’m as likely to be asked, “Paper receipt? Or do you want it by email?” Since I know they don’t have my email on file, I don’t want to waste the time typing it in.
The question is: shouldn’t stores be giving you your receipt? Even if it’s just to keep their cashiers honest?
If you’re not paying cash, cashiers can’t pocket your money. I believe that was the original reason for a paper trail of every sale.
You are entitled to a receipt for every transaction. In some states, it is required by law. But you are not obligated to take the receipt given to you.
I always take the receipt. If you are making purchases among several stores in one trip (mall shopping), how do you prove you bought an item at store number one while in store number two that sells the same item which is now checking goods and receipts as you leave the store?
I always say “no”. It’s just one more thing to throw away, and my bank’s online banking is pretty good about updating near-immediately for POS purchases with my debit card.
Theoretically, yes. But in 55 years I have never once been asked to prove I bought an item at another store.
^This, exactly.
