Got one (Kamado Joe - same grill more or less, different color) right at the start of COVID. It was right around $1,000.
Yes, it takes more time to heat up. I use that time to prep food, have a drink, etc. You just have to plan ahead a little bit. You can also force it. Light the charcoal and put air on it (I use a small battery powered blower) and I can have it at 500+ in less than 10 minutes. Another 5 to stabilize the temp and I’m good to go. The extra flavor is worth it to me.
Not quite daily since I don’t grill daily, but at least 2-3 times a week (sometimes more). I personally would never go back. I have only cooked on gas since when I’m away from home and that’s the only option.
If you care about that sort of thing, they’re also significantly more environmentally friendly.
