A broken leg. It will heal so much more quickly than a broken heart.
I’d rather have a broken leg. It heals faster, and it probably doesn’t hurt as much. Sometimes it takes years to get over a broken heart.
Ok, I’ve never had a broken leg, and I’ve not really ever had a serious broken heart. This isn’t because of some great secret I have, it’s more like “nothing ventured. nothing gaine”. Or in this case, lost.
I’d still rather have a broken leg. Medical science can fix that.
A broken leg would be nothing at all compared to losing my boyfriend right now. I’d take all the hassles of a cast and crutches over that in a heartbeat.
Piffle: what’s another broken heart? Some of you guys seem awfully hung up on the sympathy you get with a broken leg. Who cares? Those people will show you their backsides the minute you heal.
Your true friends will stick with you until you get over your broken heart, no matter how long it takes.
And I don’t think a broken leg ever performs as well after it’s broken.
Yeah, what she said.
And I don’t think a broken heart ever performs as well after it’s broken.
Give me a broken leg any day.
Had both. Totally broken leg. Pharmaceuticals are much better at taking away physical pain than emotional pain.
I’m with Ruby.
If my heart gets broken one more time I don’t think I’m a’gonna make it.
Mine has performed very well after each and every time, thank you very much. When my wife jumped off a nearby bridge and was never found,(fierce currents down there) I was certain I’d never get over it, plus since she was never found, I kept seeing her everywhere. It took a long time, but one day I woke up and thought, “Screw it, this just isn’t worth it. Get on with it, you jerk.”
And I went back to my old avocation of chasing women.
I think they’re both capable of performing perfectly well after being broken, it’s just that one hurts a lot more (and often longer) than the other.
Leg. If I get a broken leg, Bird Man will take care of me and carry me around. If I get a broken heart, I’ll have to walk.
No contest - break my leg, please. That sort of hurt goes away.

Lots of similar sentiments from other posters too.
I disagree, you’re being a tad simplistic - broken bones could result in scars (ever noiced how rude some people can be drawing attention to an ugly scar ? eg "What the **** happened to your leg ?), long term restricted movement, various levels of aches and pains in damp weather, permanent presence of foreign bodies such as plates or screws. The physical reminders could be permanent. You live in a 4th floor flat with no lift ? You’re housebound while it heals and bearing in mind those four flights of stairs your friends may not be so willing to ‘pop’ in - phone calls aren’t the same. There is a mental aspect too - do you now fear the activity you were participating in when the bone broke ? What are you missing out on while mending ? It could take you a while to ‘trust’ the bone not to snap again etc.
I’ve had a broken arm and a broken heart. I wish neither had happened but don’t regret the events which lead up to either.
OK so much for the lecture. Now here’s the answer I had in mind as soon as I read the thread title - Broken Leg.
…ever noiced how rude some people can be drawing attention to an ugly scar ? eg "What the **** happened to your leg ?
Oh, I don’t know if I’d call it “rude.”
Given the choice I’d rather have every bone in my body broken than have a broken heart.
Broken hearts make you feel just as bad as broken bones, but there are pills and fixes and science for broken bones. You can’t get the same kind of help for a broken heart.
I don’t ever actually fall in love, so I’m only afraid of broken legs.
Broken hearts are no more of a threat to me than having the ATF seize my tractor trailer.
I don’t use alcohol, tobacco, or firearms, and I don’t own a tractor trailer.
I’m jealous of every one of you that can fall in love.
Broken heart. Never have broken a bone, and I’m gonna run with “the devil I know”, as another person did up above. I’m generally melancholy anyway, and I’m not so great at physical pain. I’m an expert at the emotional kind, though.
Oh, I don’t know if I’d call it “rude.”
Insensitive then ?
The only advantage to “broken leg” is the painkiller prescriptions you’d qualify for. No such luck with broken hearts.
Still, I have stairs and no health insurance, so I’ll take “broken heart” for $600, Alex.*
- Trebek, of course.
