How often do doxxing and threats turn into physical attacks? I’m not suggesting that doxxing and Internet death threats are nothing, they should be dealt with criminally, what I’m wondering about is the bark/bite ratio.
It is time critical if your assailant is poised to be appointed or elected to high office in a few weeks.
Hill got a book deal, speaking fees, fellowships, and several awards. Before her claims, she was almost treading water - teaching at Oral Roberts U, and an un-accredited university. So yes, she made money off it, although not from direct contributions. This won’t hurt Ford’s career either, although there is no reason to believe she did it for money directly or indirectly.
As to the OP - not if it was 35 years ago and I couldn’t prove anything.

Shodan
Is this about you? Or is this about getting even with your assailant? If you (not you) attack/molest me today, I’m not waiting 36 years to get even. You can count on a visit from the police, process servers, the IRS, and maybe some ill-tempered sea bass with laser beams attached to their heads. And I don’t find internet posters to be very threatening. They’re just people with PCs who can afford internet access.
Waiting 36 years for your assailant to reach a point in their career when you can hurt them the most seems ludicrous. What if they never amount to anything? You will have wasted all that time.
In my personal life, I can think of many, many awful people who would make awful Supreme Court justices. If I heard they were nominated I would have to oppose them with all means available to me.
This goes for you especially Frank Collins, who waited until your fellow summer campers were asleep and then stealthily went and peed in their beds. Also David Denkman who took his girlfriend to the movies and cut a hole in the bottom of the popcorn and put his dick in it so she would grab it. Yes I would doxx myself to keep you off SCOTUS.
I do not like how this is framed. The OP makes it look like some sort of vengeance. You don’t present it as “you have information that they are unfit for office due to a previously unknown crime.” It’s about trying to take them down. That suggests more a political rivalry rather than principle or morality.
I can’t answer that question. I know the right thing to do, but I also know I’m mentally weak. Would the oppression from outside be worse than beating myself up on the inside? And, even if it is, would I be able to bring myself to act, since there is an inertia on acting?
I do very much respect and admire anyone who does, and acknowledge how difficult it is to do so. Doing the right thing can be extremely hard. But they are doing it. Even knowing it may fail. Even knowing that someone like that will likely attempt to punish you if they do make it into power.
Those who take on hardship to do what is right are worthy of admiration specifically because not everyone can do it.
For myself, I simply hope I am never put in such a position. I struggle with people posting hateful stuff on Facebook and whether I should try to respond. I struggle with the small risk that I may lose some friends despite being respectful with what I say.
They aren’t.
They’re donating to the guy who set up the GoFundMe page. He has no connection to BK and is going to end up pocketing the entire amount, claiming “overhead” or something.
There’s a sucker born every minute.
How did David keep all the popcorn from falling out, unless he was a pencil dick?
If I were single with no kids, I would go public. I have a family, so even if I knew that I would prevail I would not come forward.
nearwildheaven, have you ever tried pouring popcorn through a small hole? The pieces jam against each other, such that you need a hole several times the size of an individual popped kernel.
It would depend on the size of the popcorn. They’re not all the same.
That’s odd; I could have sworn that it was Kavanaugh, not Ford, that got much of that.
Anyway, you need to ask yourself one question: “Why should people believe me?” If your answer is, “I have actual corroborating evidence.” then go ahead, otherwise tread carefully. In Ford’s case, the answer seemed to me to be, “He’s a Republican nominee and all Democrats will seize on this.” If you do not have actual evidence then you need to think again, because you will be used by others for their own ends.
Perhaps it’s instructive to compare the accuser of Kavanaugh with the accusers of Jimmy Savile. Ford’s accusation came after many years at a politically sensitive time; she made no complaint at the time. Many people complained about Savile - there were complaints as early as 1963 - and their complaints were dismissed without adequate investigation (e.g. the police did not bother to question the staff at Duncroft). But eventually the accusations were properly investigated and he was found out. The other really important thing is that the complaints were on the police record at the time. Ford’s was not.
As with Savile:
The truth came out in the end.
And you would have been wrong by a significant margin.
That’s certainly your interpretation. I would point out that this…
…indicates that one must have some pretty strong motives to put oneself and one’s family through that particular grinder. Given that all Ford would have achieved had she blocked Kavanaugh’s nomination would be to have the next person on the Federalist shortlist - with similar qualification and political views - brought in and confirmed, would you have your and your whole family’s lives torn apart for years just to get a delay of a couple of weeks?
I’m sure the thousands upon thousands of rape victims out there stuck in he-said/she-said situations would be thrilled to hear you categorise them as hapless stooges.
You just provided an example of decades of women’s rape complaints being dismissed by the system and only believed after the perpetrator was dead… and you think this helps your case? Do you think reporting a rape is easy? Do you think reliving the worst moments of your life under hostile interrogation is maybe something that might be a tad offputting for already-traumatised victims? And given that, as you’ve ably demonstrated, rape claims are often trivially handwaved away, do you understand yet why they are often not filed at all?
