Would You Throw This Food Away?

eta, there’s more in my reply than just calories in and out. switching from highly processed to less processed had results that ranged far beyond calories and nutrition.

set up a gofundme, I’ll help with groceries

Hi DorkVader and thanks. I tried sending a PM (not sure if this is prohibited) but it says you aren’t accepting… I don’t have a bank account, and use those pre-paid debit cards, which does have bank information. I tried to sign up (since you need this for GoFundMe) and I kept getting “Information Incorrect”, and I tried the few options. I have garnishments from credit card companies, and I’d feel bad (on top of embarrassed) if they were take that money… I appreciate it.

@MortSahlFan , if you want to create a gofundme and post a link to it, please send me (or any other mod) a copy of exactly what you plan to post, first, so I can run it by the mod loop. We like to pre-approve any requests for financial help.

If anyone is moved to reach out privately to MortSahlFan , by direct message, that’s allowed. Generosity is nice. It’s just people asking for stuff that we like to be cautious about.

Look up your local county food bank. The one I work at does regular produce distributions along with boxes of non-perishables like beans, canned fruit, tuna, pasta, etc. and more often than not, boxes of perishables like milk, cheese, some sort of meat (usually precooked things that just need to be warmed) etc.

With the pandemic, we’ve seen demand more than double. To find food, google (your county name) food bank or (your county name) free food

Thank, and I was in this position last year, which was made much tougher because ALL our public transportation was shut down due to COVID (they even took down our route a few days ago) and eventually, this Islamic group were nice enough to help my city from over an hour away, and the sheriff’s office also dropped a box of cans, which was very helpful. I live in a very, very poor city and even these resources are scarce, and usually gone immediately - they just can’t keep up. I’ve noticed my neighbors basically running puppy mills among each other, and the barking is driving me crazy, and I already have insomnia. It’s so bad that I think I woke up today from an imagined bark, since it’s not that common to hear dogs at 5:30am, but you never know… The police don’t even show up around here, so I stopped calling (and we don’t have Animal Control - it’s part of 911).

COVID has been the problem, one, because I can’t do any live performing, and second, the work I did at home (recording real drum beats, etc) has been killed off because people around here are broke, and I’m out of credit card availability. The only thing I’ve been doing is selling possessions of mine on Craigslist.

I agree with the food bank/food sharing suggestion. Our community center hands out well filled food boxes on a weekly basis. They only ask for name, address and how many people in the home.

As you seem to be having problems with setting up gofundme account, if you want to pm me with your name, address and grocery store, I could probably have a gift card sent to you.
