Myself, I watch a lot of those ID shows…I would absolutely volunteer to pull a switch. And there’s a handful, a small handful, that if someone said, “Were gonna leave you two alone for awhile , just you, him and whatever you need”…Absolutely. Someone who buried kids alive? Just me, him and a shovel.
No. I don’t support the death penalty in the first place, so obviously I’m not going to volunteer to personally do the killing.
Depends who’s being executed. If it’s a certain old high-school classmate or two, I’d jump at the chance.
Nope. I believe all killing of human beings is wrong, so there’s no way I’ll be an executioner.
And the second thing is just something I couldn’t adequately respond to outside the Pit, but suffice to say, it’s an abhorrent, repulsive desire you’ve expressed there, a truly ugly thing to say.
Sounds like you should try watching some other shows for a while.
It would depend what he did, and if he’d been sentenced to die by a legitimate authority.
For, say, that Al-Baghdadi fellow who purports to be the Caliph? Sure.
It depends on who is being executed and why. The ability of the justice system to establish guilt isn’t reliable enough for me to be a death penalty supporter, and I think the crimes that carry the penalty should be re-evaluated. OTOH, I have personally known some people who have done some incredibly awful things. Their guilt is not in question. If they had been given the death penalty, it would not have burdened my conscience to carry it out.
No, because this person might not be guilty.
On an emotional level, if I saw them kill a loved one, I’m sure I’d want them dead (and perhaps want to kill them myself). But that’s revenge, not justice.
For anyone else, I wouldn’t be willing to kill them because there’s a chance they might not be guilty.
No. I don’t have the right – nor the inclination.
In ancien regime France, executioners were rewarded with the right to just walk into shops and take whatever they needed (within reason), because they were social pariah and refused otherwise.
If we instituted such a policy today, our death penalties would be carried out by teenage girls (who already have the temperament for the job).
What are “ID” shows? Inquiring minds want to know.
Investigation Discovery channel.
I can’t wrap my head around the desire to “punish” bad people by beating them to death with a shovel. I think it’s sick.
In the context of what he said, I believe his point was that he would bury someone alive who had done the same to a child.
Would you need 100% proof of guilt - DNA, video, reliable witnesses, etc. - or is a simple guilty verdict enough for you?
My one problem with doing this is my same problem with the death penalty in general. Too many people have been freed from death row for me to trust the system to only execute the guilty.
I would need 1000% of guilt. And personally my bar for the Death Penalty is pretty high. Poisoned your last two husbands insurance money? Life without parole.
69 IQ, convicted of manslaughter before and shot a lover once in front of the police station before she could file a report? Good lord Oklahoma, what’s wrong with you? That’s a life sentence, not the Death Penalty.
Kidnapped a 6 year old, raped her then buried her alive? I need to go to Home Depot.
As for the person above in the thread who said that was abhorrent…I completely respect your opinion.
Volunteer? No. Take the job for pay? Depends on the benefits package.
Given the choice…Worse, I guess.
Other than the military, I don’t kill using other peoples wants.
My personal knowledge, you betcha…
