Would you want a clone of your dog?

Love my Bernese Mountain Dog. I know I will cry when her time comes. I love most everything about her and I would be hard pressed to not want her back as strange as it may sound. Great girl!

No. We recently lost 2 greyhounds that were adopted as seniors. I’d love to have them back and healthy… but I think the dog’s life experiences (like humans) shape their personalities so the clone couldn’t **be **the same dog.

 46lb JRT… Wow!

Of my Tucker and Maggie, yes.

Not of my current dog, Preston. I love him very much, but he’s not the soulmate to me that they were, and I have a thing for Goldens - not the appearance, the personality. Preston is lovely and sweet and smart as all hell, but he’s odd in ways that I’m not crazy about and I don’t know if that’s the way he was born or what his first 6months of life before he was mine did. Either way, Maggie and Tucker were the great dog loves of my life and I would welcome the opportunity to raise puppies from identical DNA…I’m sure the cloned dogs would be terrific. Not terrific in exactly the same ways, necessarily, but not radically different and still terrific.

No. They may be able to duplicate his features, but they cannot clone his personality.

I agree, to an extent… I think there is much more to genetics than rugged individualism of the American variety will allow. We all have a blueprint and fall within tolerances.

They’ll attack soon, those clones.

Man, I just realized I want a Pet Sematary. Kind of creepy, but a definite Dog Heaven, to those of us who see it differently. I certainly, don’t see a pure cloned resurrection as anything evil. I’d probably do the same for my Dad and Mom, is that philology wrong> to want to ressurrect and raise your Mom and Dad? Perverse or not?
