If you could have any breed of dog, what would you want?

Suppose availability and price is no issue. You can have any type/breed of dog in the world as a pet.

Sure, you can keep any dogs you already have right now, this would be just another addition.

What dog would you like?

For some reason, I’ve always wanted a Saint Bernard.

I’m currently trying to decide if the puppy I purchase next year will be an English springer spaniel or a brittany spaniel. So…one of those

Love my dachsund/corgi mix. I want another one of him!

I like Australian shepherds but I don’t like that their tails are cut off. So Aussie with natural tail.

But I always say that and then I end up with some rescued mutt who is perfect. Current mutt is border collie mix.

My next dog will either be a Anatolian Shepherd, Neapolitan Mastiff or a Clumber Spaniel. Which I choose to get will depend on where I’m at in my life when im ready for my next dog.

Right now I’m leaning towards the clumber since I’d like to get back in bird hunting but training a good hunting dog is a full time job for three years plus the time spent going hunting. Right now I don’t have enought time to do it right or even hunt more then once a year.

My mastiff is only 2.5 years old and I don’t think I could handel more then one 200+ lb dog at a time so unless something terrible happens to him I don’t think I’ll be ready for a Neo for at least a decade.

Anatolians are the perfect dog in my opinion, at least based on my current one. If my life doesn’t change much before we’re ready for a 3rd dog that is what we’ll probably get. They are protective, calm, independent, and match their energy level to their owners.

I wanted another Golden Retriever after my Dolly died because they are the best dogs in the world ever so says God and Everyone Else.

But I didn’t like hearing “she has a massive brain tumor, which unfortunately we see a lot in golden retrievers…” so I opted this time for a mutt.

Maybe next time. Maybe when it’s time for my dog to outlive me.

Pug.

Price and availability and even room (obviously) are not really the problem. The problem is my lease says I can’t have a dog. :frowning: Even if I could, I wouldn’t want one here. I am not of the dogwalking philosophy of dog ownership; all my dogs have been “let out in the backyard to to their business” dogs, and the yard here isn’t secure.

Great Dane. Male. On the larger side. Harlequin but I’d consider a Blue.

Pretty much like the one sleeping across my legs; my dream dog.

That or one more Golden. Or another like my fabulous Golden/Shepherd cross.

A retriever, either a golden or a Labrador. I have had both and my current mutt is a Lab. Both breeds are gentle, good-natured, obedient, and easy to train. I’m really a sucker for black Labs, though. I’d probably take a Lab over a golden because they’re easier to keep groomed.

Dachshund, or another Keeshond like the one I grew up with.

Pit Bull, all the way. Unless I could find another PB/GSD cross, like the wonderful one I once had, who was the best dog ever.

I would not turn down a free Basset Hound, though. We had one when I was a kid, and he was great.

One that doesn’t shed.

Giant Schnauzer. Intelligent, loyal, fearsome appearance, yet mild mannered and relatively quiet.

Wirehaired Pointing Griffon

I’m allergic to dogs, so I can’t have one in my home. But if I could, it’d be a female golden. One neighbor had one, and she let me play with her. Wonderful, playful, really nice dog.

Do I have to choose one before meeting the dog? Any shepherd breed. The bestest dog ever was my uncle’s GSD, but it just seems to me like the best-trained, nicest dogs I meet are either shepherd breeds or sailor breeds. I guess I should go for a Spanish water dog, they’re both of the above and they’re local
Note that this is actually on paper: if (big if) I ever get a dog, it will be from the pound/rescue, so the most likely breed will be “dog” and he or she will be neutered.

GSD or Akita. My hubby votes Rottie.

I’ve got two mini schnauzers…they’re both morons.
Anyways, any dog, no 'I’d love to have a _, but" type things, then I’d go with one of those dogs that’s just stupidly big. Great Dane, Irish Wolfhound, Newfie etc. I’ve even had my eye on an Akita, Siberian Husky or Malamute.

I should probably point out that I know nothing about any of those dogs other than what they look like, they’re just dogs that I’ve thought to myself 'hey, look at that _____, I want one".

In reality, my next dog will probably end up being a Labradoodle or Wheaton Terrier.

I’m a big guy, so I’d love a boerbuelor an English Mastiff

It’s a tough decision, Boerboels tend to be smarter (Darn knowitall Mabari) but E. Mastiffs are friendlier.

I don’t like dogs in my house, and I originally read the word ‘breed’ as ‘bread’.

Basically, I would rather get a loaf of bread than any dog you could name.
