I thought the proper conservative response to a child placed in such a situation is “Suck it up, buttercup. You can do <x> just like I did”. Did they change this?
I dunno, man. Do you think a kid in a JROTC class will feel free to speak up about her views on US military adventurism, on misogyny and sexual abuse in the military, on our imperialist tendencies around the world? Where are your OH NOES for that?
Seriously, you should start a thread freaking out that we have JROTC in schools, if you’re so worried about indoctrinating kids.
Depends on the color of the snowflake. Blue snowflakes don’t melt very fast, so they should suck it up. Red snowflakes are too warm, always on the verge of melting. So they need special coddling.
Gotta pick one, huh? I guess it depends what kind of job is to be sought.
On a side note, how is it that conservatives use the phrase “social justice” as an epithet? I guess dog-whistles just weren’t loud enough?
My feeling is that many of the people who decry “social justice” are unwilling or unable to actually understand the term. They instead register it only as “another liberal buzzword,” and therefore to be opposed.
The alternative, of course, is that folks like Urbanredneck are actively opposed to justice…which may be true in some alt-right cases, but I hope is not the case in his.
Purple snowflakes? They taste like grapes!
No, it isn’t even close to reality.
That commentator’s rhetoric shows that they are afraid their world view can’t survive in daylight, and that only hiding the errors of past generations will protect their world view.
The angry reaction of the SJWs in Edina show that it isn’t the commentator who is afraid of being found out. It’s the SJWs who are horrified to find that they don’t get to push the far-left agenda without being called on it.
Can you make a case for hiding historical fact or other points of view to me?
I am not the one who wants to hide other points of view. The teacher who wants her students to see everything thru the lens of Oppression Studies 101 is that person.
She says, quite openly and clearly, that she intends to push marxism. Admit it - if she said she was going to teach everything so her students sympathize with Trump or Christianity or some non-PC POV, y’all would be losing your shit screaming. But indoctrination from the left is just hunky-dory.
I wish I could say it was unbelievable.

That is absolutely and 100% not what she says. Read what she said again, and look up any words in her course description that you don’t already know. If you’re still confused, lemme know.

Is… is that what you think is meant by “applying a Marxist lens” to literature? That’s… really not what that means. Marxist lit theory is a term of art that essentially means analyzing a piece of literature for how it reflects the social structures and conflicts in place at the time it was created. It has nothing to do with pushing Marxism, or anything.
You are factually incorrect in your interpretation. Will you acknowledge this?
I stand proudly against these men of straw who advocate for teaching children to be marxist.

Damn well said!
Look at this example of a SJW teacher pushing his crap on students. Basically the story is about a teacher slamming persons in the military.
I thought the proper conservative response to a child placed in such a situation is “Suck it up, buttercup. You can do <x> just like I did”. Did they change this?
Actually not far from that. I tell my son not to argue to much when people push some liberal ideas. Speaking up just gets one in trouble because leftist teachers arent interested in free speech.
So the only reason kids should take any class in school is so they can get a particular job? Just toss out English, geography, history, art? Jesus fucking Christ.
Oh, nice last words there. Such open mindedness about others values. Sure makes me wish I had voted for Hillary.
But back to the topic, no, the basics are good. I’m good at all those (except art - I cant draw anything). The STUPID thing is to make every freaking course is a lesson in all that social justice crap so the kids know everything about “social justice” but cant do algebra or chemistry.
However you tell me - when was the last time on a job application they asked you who Rosa Parks was?

Jesus fucking Christ- so the only reason to learn anything is if it might be on a job application?

What the hell do you think you’re on about? Nothing’s gonna make you wish that, that has nothing to do with the conversation, it’s a petulant little snipe on your part. You’re seriously gonna bring that weak game to great debates?
For real, Urbanredneck, you’ve been conclusively rebutted here, and all you can do is ask ridiculous questions like when was the last time a job application asked me who George Washington was?
C’mon. Surely, SURELY you can do better than that.
Do you actually know anything about Marxism, or its place in history? Or Marx himself? Ever read Marx? I have – it was boring as all get out. (It was for a class on political philosophy. We also read Machiavelli, Adam Smith, John Stuart Mill, etc)
Damn well said!

Congratulations – you found an asshole. What do you want, a cookie?

What the hell does this have to do with Hilary Clinton? I don’t even remember mentioning Clinton.

Nice straw man. I never said anything about “making every course a lesson in social justice”.
However you tell me - when was the last time on a job application they asked you who Rosa Parks was?
Not that I recall. But I don’t recall being asked if I could do algebra or chemistry either.
(Hell, I never even took chemistry, nor did I ever use it, unless you count baking)
What on earth is wrong with learning about Rosa Parks? Her actions had a major impact on American history. “Social justice” has fuck all to do with it. If a kid doesn’t know who Rosa Parks is, I’d say that’s pretty sad. Whether she’s mentioned on a job application or not. (Ditto a kid knowing who the Founding Fathers are, WWII, Christopher Columbus, etc.)
In fact, I’m more disturbed by how few people know proper spelling and grammar. It’s far, far scarier than a lack of knowledge in algebra and chemistry. Some of them couldn’t even spell “cat” if you spotted them the C and the A.
If you have a problem with this then gasp don’t send your kids to school there. It’s a charter school, IIRC, not a public one. How is it any different than some wack-job parents teaching their kids that the world is going to end in five years, or worse, the whole “unschooling” bullshit?
Most of these people called “social justice warriors” out there don’t really concentrate on actual social justice, more like first world problems. They deserve laughter, not anger. You need to relax.

While this is a Red Herring, you do realize that it is the conservative Christians that have actively attempted to dismantle effective STEM education in this country?
“Unlike the “modern math” theorists, who believe that mathematics is a creation of man and thus arbitrary and relative, A Beka Book teaches that the laws of mathematics are a creation of God and thus absolute…A Beka Book provides attractive, legible, and workable traditional mathematics texts that are not burdened with modern theories such as set theory.” — ABeka.com
It is absurd to make a claim that teaching equality and the truth about our past will effect math scores, but the groups who are passing laws want to do so to protect their creationist views.
C’mon. Surely, SURELY you can do better than that.
