I would LOVE to work for me. I’d just shut up and do my job!
When I ran an office, it was weird how the decent workers appreciated me, but the fuckups had problems with me.

I figure if the infrastructure was already in place and all I had to do was not mess it up, I’d be okay. And if so, then I think I’d be a great boss/employee combo.
However, if I had all the responsibility to build it from scratch, I would likely be making a real mess of it, and employee me would not have faith in employer me.
Hell yes. I’m the only person I’ve met so far who truly understands the way I work and function. My modus operandi as an employee is to get the job done right and on time, and not talk to you until the job is done right and on time.
As a boss, that would be my same expectation from my workers. However, pretty much everyone else besides me would fail to meet my lofty standards. So I would be the only employee fit for a boss like me, and I would be the only boss fit for an employee like me.
In my ideal world, everyone else would be replaced with clones of me in terms of personality, but with different skillsets.
I don’t think so. There are a few times in my life where I’ve been the employer or have hired individuals to help me with home-related projects. In most of those cases when the job/assignment was over they declined to work with me again. I must be doing something wrong.
It’s one of the reasons I never aspired to be in management.
Absolutely. We would organize a union, lock the big boss out, take over the business, and run it as a collective. We’d take it in turns to act as a sort of executive-officer-for-the-week, but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at special bi-weekly meeting by a simple majority, in the case of purely internal affairs but by a two-thirds majority, in the case of more major…
^ BE QUIET! I order you to be quiet!
Not until your post did I see the violence inherent in the system…
.
By the way, I was offered a "track"where I’d end up being a manager (and the boss hinted he was looking for someone to buy the business when he retired). I said “No way!” (and to my coworkers finished the sentence i should have said: “I don’t want to turn into an asshole.”
I hope so. As a supervisor I try to emulate my previous supervisor, because I liked her. I try to be available to answer questions without unduly interfering or making more work for my people. I try to give them the answer and also explain how to find those answers rather than playing Socratic games while they’re under the gun and need to make a decision quickly. I try to make clear what my minimum non-negotiable expectations are, as well as what I would ideally like to see (but can forgive the absence of), and encourage “triage” thinking where necessary. I try to be someone they can come to when they make a mistake because I’ll help fix it rather than flipping out.
Well, I didn’t vote for you!
