WoW Cataclysm coming soon

I think there’s just something going around. Just before you did it here, someone else did it in another thread (though not to me that time).

Does the bonus exp from current heirlooms work in the expansion? will there be a price drop on the 5k flying skill?

Not post-80, and no, it’s still 5K minus rep bonus.

Adding to my own post outside the edit window:

There will also be a 250g charge (available at level 60) for “Old Weather Flying” (aka Azeroth flying) and a 5000g minus rep bonus charge to upgrade your flying for all mounts to 310%. You won’t have to pay this if you have any 310% mounts going in to Cataclysm.

I was going to ask about that… so even though we have that message, the download isn’t available yet?

Others have touched on this but I’ll go into some detail how it works for Holy Paladins.

Some abilities, Holy Shock the important one for Holy Paladins but we also have a talent that will give you a point for directly healing your Beacon target ,will generate one point of Holy Power up to a maximum of three. These seem to degrade over time but I’m not sure at what rate. Holy Power is then released by casting our new mana free instant heal:

Word of Glory
40 yd range
Instant
Consumes all Holy Power to heal a friendly target for 1553 to 1729 per charge of Holy Power.

The UI now was a Holy Power resource thing under your characters portrait.

There is about 1.5Gb available to download at the moment and I downloaded some of it last night. That is probably just about enough data for the talent changes and so on so this might be most of the next patch minus a few balancing tweaks.

The 4.0 patch (if it’s like the previous expansion), will probably be out maybe 2-4 weeks before the expansion. With the expansion release supposedly set for November 2nd, 4.0 may be out around mid-October.

The only reason that’s really unlikely is that Blizzcon is scheduled for October 23. Nobody, Blizzard staff and gamers alike, will want to be at a convention when a new expansion has just come out. Better to delay 4.0 until after the convention, when all the prep and planning is finished.

Yeah, I would bet a decent amount of money that 4.0 will either come out well before Blizzcon (like the beginning of October) or else it won’t be out until after the con. If they’re really shooting for a November 2 release date, then I would say that indicators point at 4.0 dropping in about two weeks.

BTW, any other Dopers going to Blizzcon? This will be my third one this year–looking forward to it!

Wait, I think I’ve confused myself. Patch 4.0 is not the same as the actual Cataclysm expansion?

No – patch 4.0 is a revamp of the talent system and honor/badge reward systems; it will hit before Cataclysm is released. You can check it out on the PTR.

ETA: Current PTR patch notes

Thanks, I’ve only been paying a tenth the attention I usually do. It looks like this is the mechanics patch, and the actual Cataclysm content will come with the expansion.

If I recall what I read/heard correctly, the pre-WotLK patch hit about a month before the expansion itself. That would put 4.0 at around Oct 2-Oct 9, well before Blizzcon. That seems the most likely to me.

Another quick question that I could probably get answered on a web page: will Goblins and Worgen be able to become Death Knights?

Yes. There’s some question about it lore-wise (primarily that Gilneans would not have been subject to the Scourge), but Blizzard didn’t think it was compelling enough to deny a class choice to the new races that all the other races get.

I think there’s still some confusion about whether they’ll be able to do it right away, though, because of the achievements for first Goblin and first Worgen to reach max level. The DKs would obviously have a huge head start.

I know they’re not going to be enabling race changes for awhile…I wonder if they’ll do the same thing for DKs.

We have no idea yet. They haven’t mentioend it. I personally would LOVE to see them have DK as starting race options - and start them at level 1, with a famous DK being a teacher. No reason you have to be undead to learn how to throw Death Coils!

It seems like it would be easier (and less aggravating all around) to exclude DKs from the first-80 achievement instead of locking them out altogether.

I agree, but it depends on how the code works. It might be as easy as flipping a switch to say “if race = goblin or worgen and class = dk, then ineligible for first goblin/worgen to 80”. But then again it might make DKs in general ineligible for the first to 80 achievement, which would be bad.
