WoW: Got Plenty Of Gold, But.......

I play an alliance toon when I go to Stormwind, but I AM Quasimodem in the horde when I come into Cairne.

I am an Orc Warrior.

I think what someone else said is for me to search for Burning Dog when I enter Cairne. I’ll do that next time, thanks!

Quasi

Ah, and therefore I was wrong - sorry about that! I knew I was probably missing something. Best of luck!

I’m sure later on they are, but right now (<level 20) they’ve been quite helpful. The stuff I’ve picked up from quest drops has not been as good as the stuff I can buy at the vendors, although that’s beginning to change (a 336 armor nonmagic shield versus a 328 armor shield with +2 Strength? No contest).

Admittedly, I’ve been running short on cash constantly due to buying up gear. I’m level 18 and I’ve barely been able to hang onto a single gold piece. Finally discovered the joys of the auction house, so things should be easier now.

I never thought I’d be talking about WoW beyond the abstract. Sigh. Finally got dragged into it by friends despite my solemn vow to never play. I have to admit it’s a fun game. My character as of last night, by the way.

BTW, how is the queue on Cairne? Argent Dawn seems to pretty consistently have a 200+ queue during peak hours (9 pm or so most nights). If Cairne is quieter, I might make a new toon there to play when I just want to get in ten minutes of boar-slaying.

I play WoW in short sessions, logging on and off a lot, so I notice queues. I’ve been playing on Cairne exclusively. Right after the expansion came out, I’d get queues of about 10-20. There weren’t any queues over this past weekend.

Cairne used to be very overcrowded (we were the last new server before the expansion patches came out), but they allowed free transfers off and the problem has gone away.

After you buy your bags, you could spend some cash skilling up a tradeskill to make your own armor. If you’re a warrior blacksmithing is for you (mining is the best gathering skill to go with this). If you’re a rogue/druid/hunter/shaman you might like leatherworking (skinning is the gathering skill to go with this), and if you’re playing a clothie then learn tailoring (cloth gathering doesn’t require a tradeskill so you could do one of the other gathering skills for cash, or something completely different like enchanting or jewelcrafting, both of which would benefit you personally). You can only learn two main professions, but don’t forget you can always learn fishing, cooking, and first aid, all of which are pretty handy skills to have.

Whichever profession you choose, you have the option of depending on your own gathering profession to supply the materials to make the stuff, or you can search the auction house for materials you need and buy from other folks.

My main is actually a tailor & jewelcrafter. Unfortunately skilling up jewelcrafting absolutely sucks without having a miner, so I spent most of the weekend skilling another character up in mining, and spent a crapload of gold in the process, but I made it! Now I just need to find a place to mine cobalt that’s not completely farmed dry. :o

I haven’t played in around 18 months, but I’d say you need to go about getting gear differently. Get thee to the deadmines and get some better gear. Your weapon is sad and depressing. :frowning:

What Tenebras said. At level 20 you should be in all greens just from doing quests. Spending your gold (or silver) on vendor trash gear isn’t optimum. Better gear than that drops from random mobs and will show up as quest rewards. You are doing quests, right? Not just running around killing things (grinding)?

As I said, the quest drops simply haven’t been as good as the vendor items. Since I hit 20, though, they are starting to get more interesting, and as of last night the only piece of equipment I still have that’s vendor is my boots and bow (and a few random weapons I grabbed to train skills up for kicks).

As for the Deadmines, meh. If I feel like it, I’ll run it, but I’m a soloist by nature. I accept that means I probably won’t have the best stuff in exchange for not dealing with PuGs.

Really, for a first character in a game, it’s my opinion that ‘mistakes’ (read: non-optimal choices) are perfectly fine. Once you start learning the game and understanding what’s what, then it gets dumb to spend your time at lower levels building up enough money to buy a full outfit that’ll just be replaced 45 minutes later, but on your first run-through I don’t see that it’s much harm.

BTW, a quick note since this is the active WoW thread: Anyone else trying to level up crafting skills before going to Northrend, please note that you DON’T have to get Blacksmithing (and I assume other crafting skills) all the way to 375 before you make the trip - I think the new ores start being craftable at about 350, and certainly by 365, which is a good thing because the last 10 points looked to be very very expensive or painful to accumulate.

I rolled up a Human Death Knight, took mining and skinning for my professions (to make cash and to help gather stuff for my other craftsmen). I am lv67 currently, but I hit 375 in mining and skinning a few levels ago.

Fel Iron gave skill ups to about 370 (and is still “green”), skinning still gave skill ups almost every time.

The crafting professions on my other toons are much much more of a pain to level.

Absolutely it’s ok to make less-than-optimal choices when playing your first toon through Azeroth. I apologize if I came across as overly harsh; I was just trying to be helpful by offering a perspective that is based on more than 4 years of WoW.

And don’t worry too much about good gear for soloists. If you like PvP, you can do that and the gear available from vendors at the original 3 battle grounds, as well as the PvP gear for 60s, 70s and 80s in the big cities are all awesome. Some of the gear is still the best available in the game, for the level.

Good luck, and have fun!

Bomage - FOR THE HORDE!!!

The 60s pvp gear is a waste of honor and marks. Outland greens have comparable or better stats. With the new level cap, I’m not convinced 70s pvp gear is worth getting for those that do not already have it. I think my DK (currently only 62) may eventually get a piece or two…expecially if there’s a good two-hander available, but then it’s off to Northrend and the push to 80. From what I understand, Season 5 PVP gear will require level 80…

On the other hand, my mage is 72, had a full set of 70s pvp gear (mixture of S1-S4) and rocking in his pvp gear still. I don’t expect to replace anything until 76ish.
