As no one here as any reason to know, I am in my first year of medical school. This term that means that with the exception of my Intro to Clinical Medicine course (where we actually learn how to interact with patients) I spend a great deal of time sitting in a lecture hall listening to some professor go on and on about immunology or pathology or whatever. Definitly necessary but it doesn’t feel much different from college.
But next term we will learn how to do a physical exam for which we all need to buy our own instuments. And our new toys came in the mail yesterday. That’s exactly what it looked like in the hall as we passed out everyones orders - kids tearing open packages on christmas morning to get at the cool new toys. So I am now the proud owner of a sphygmomanometer (also known as a blood pressure cuff) an ophthalmoscope, the stethoscope they gave me at orientation, and a few other gizmos. This definitely helps me feel like I might someday make it being a doctor rather than just spending the rest of my life in lectures.
I think I’m gonna head out to my parents place this weekend and make my little brother let me look in their ears and stuff.
