Wow. Impressed with my kid's school! Day of Silence

This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve read. Your daughter is truly a badass and that school deserves all the kudos anyone can muster. AAA+

Very cool…my story is a little different.

My daughter was also duct tape girl. And the principal decided it might be “disruptive” so she was asked to remove it. She refused, and got detention.

They called me AFTER detention (where she was in tears), and I lost it. I was assured she did not have detention for exercising her right to free speech, but for defiance. And then I really lost it. It took a threat of a lawsuit (emailing your attorney in these matters is a nice touch), but she got her apology and the detention removed from her record.

(She was in the room when they called me, and they put me on speakerphone, but didn’t tell me that. It was a great day in mother daughter relations because she heard me dress down the staff member who called me).

The school was great in supporting the day of silence - except for the duct tape. The teachers had all been told to let the students not talk. The kids all had white boards.

The school assures me that in the future, when its a civil liberties issue and the kid yelling “my rights!” MIGHT actually have a point, that they should talk to the parents first.

I’m impressed with some of these kids these days. And that’s not a phrase that comes out of my mouth often.

I’m so happy! That school is great! Good for her.

Dangerosa, what a bummer for your daughter. That is exactly the type of scene I was worried about. Telling kids they support everything but the duct tape is kind of a backwards way of being supporting, I’d say, since the duct tape is the point of the whole project.
WP seems to be in good spirits and is feeling a little better about school this week.
