Wow so the scotus and the GOP has proclaimed the us a theocracy?

not counting the recent abortion decisions this crap has me worried …

first this jackassness :

Amd then this:

maybe some of these doom and gloom threads are right

I’m far less worried about this than the overthrow of Roe and the looming threat of permanent Republican takeover after this November.

Prayer is ultimately (as long as participation isn’t demanded) like teaching any other perspective. It’s actually nowhere near as infectious as its partisans seem to think it is.

Approximately 1/5 of Americans are Catholic, but 2/3 of the justices are. The five other than Sotomayor are post-Roe, John-Paul/Ratzinger conservative resurgence Catholics.

I have some bad news for you.

I disagree strongly. The perspective of prayer is that supernatural forces rule the universe and are amenable to human appeals, and there are rewards and punishment in an unverifiable infinite afterlife based on adherence to religious rules, and the claimed will of a supernatural being is more important than the joy and suffering of all living creatures. There aren’t any other perspectives with anything like this priority.

I only disagree mildly. I don’t think the latter portion of your posts is part and parcel of prayer, but I agree that its premise is that supernatural forces rule the universe and are amenable to human appeals. If you don’t believe that’s what you’re appealing to, then you’re simply reflecting or meditating.

Bring back the Inquisition. Heretics should wear a sackcloth with a single eyehole over their heads. Heretics who refused to conform can be burned at the stake.

Next time listen to us.

I’m just kidding, there won’t be a next time, it’s over.

According to Barbra Streisand, the SCOTUS is now the “American Taliban”. I totally agree.

Unless they force all the kids in the classroom to say the words out loud, nobody can tell if they are praying or making out a grocery list … I look upon forced prayer exactly like a loyalty oath - mouthing words don’t make them true. [If I were an early christian, I would happily burn incense, step on a cross, whatever they want to prove I am pagan and not christian. No skin off my ass to let people think what they like. I am an agnostic, but most people I have ever worked with believed I was as christian as they were. ]

If the Scotus had proclaimed the U.S. a theocracy the abortion decision would have been quite different: it would have declared abortion to be murder and anyone involved would be guilty of homicide.

It’s a christian theocracy Junta.

like texas and the south trying to do?

What if you lose your job for not participating?
