Installing right now, many of my guildies had it at midnight. A few 72s and 73s on the server already. Looking forward to leveling and seeing new raid content (even if some of it is old raid content)
Newbie Doper chiming in from Aus. The husband was picking it up on his way in to work this morning, so we’ll start installing as soon as we get home after work tonight. The kids might have to fend for themselves when it comes to dinner!
Will be settling in tonight for some long hours of exploring Northrend…can’t wait
Sitting in a 1495 queue as I type. I might get 5 mins of playtime before I have to head to bed.
I joined the Nerd Parade™ at Fry’s this morning at 7:20am, got #47 for the CE, and was home by 8:20am.
Installed and playing within 30 minutes.
IT’S FUCKING AWESOME!!!
Got my mage to 71 then started a DK. So far this is better than BC by a long shot, and BC was incredible.
I love the new mobs, the new terrains and the new quests. I gotta go see my buddy for a bit, but when I come back, I’m heading into the Nexus and Ut’Garde (sp?).
GJ Blizz!
I decided to wait until after I got off work (at 5:00pm) to go to Best Buy to get my copy. The display up front only had Battle Chest and Burning Crusade boxes, and the Wrath display in the video games area was also thoroughly pillaged. Then, on the shelf, there were three glorious copies left. whew
Now, close to an hour after installing Wrath and downloading the patches, I’m now down to about 400 left in the queue. (started around 1350)
Apparently, someone’s hit 80 already.
D
Good lord.
Now he can sit around and complain that there’s nothing to do, and he’s bored, and when will everyone ELSE get to 80, etc.
I quit this past spring, but man, that brings back twitchy memories.
I have to admit, reading the out of the box on GameSpy about the DK’s (and getting to start at 55) I’m tempted…but I think I’ll have to refrain. I’m at my max for gaming atm and still enjoying Warhammer (not to mention trying to get through Fallout 3).
Still, I’m really interested in seeing what folks here think of this.

I installed, transferred all my 70’s over to Borean Tundra, logged out so I could switch to my main character (the first one I transferred), and the server was full. Haven’t been able to log in since.
So, I’ve been grinding quests in Nagrand (which is, sadly enough, exactly what I’ve been doing for the past several weeks), trying to get a horde alt up to 68 so she can go do WoTLK stuff.
Hopefully I can log into Cenarion Circle tomorrow; I’m taking the day off work for it. I’m going to be kind of pissed if I burn a day of PTO and just end up grinding netherweave.
It took me about 30 minutes in que to log in to my main. Took him to BT, and the place was packed, as expected. Did manage to get a few quests run, but figure that place will be nearly unplayable tommorrow as well.
I’m a little dissapointed with the change to DK creation rules. At least at launch, you are only allowed to make a DK on the server where you already have a level 55+ toon. For me, that’s only one server, Elune, so no jumpstart on tankage for the guys in Burning Dog Legion (Doper Guild) on Cairne. I think they will eventually allow DK creation on any server as long as you have at least one 55+ toon.
I did make a DK. Got him nearly to 56 tonight, despite massive overcrowding in the DK starting area. Some of the early quests are sorta…dumb…and not really explained well. I hate that Eye of Oakie-annoyance quest. Once out of Ebon hold, things picked up a bit. There’s a village to sack, and yeah, the quest lines give the feel of evil rampage-ness. Not really what I’m going for with the character…I want him to seek Redemption despite his dark nature…but gotta admit it is kinda fun to go all darkside for a bit.
DK’s start with all green quality gear, except for the sword, which is blue. Once out of Ebon Hold, I picked up blue quality neck, ring, and trinket as quest rewards, and got my mount. It looks sorta like a warlock mount, with icy flame hooves. I’ll get a bit of playing in tommorrow, maybe, then going out of town Saturday, back late Sunday.
I had to secure a copy of the CE from an eBay dealer, so I won’t get it until the 16th-17th, I could’ve paid the extra 15 for release date delivery, but meh.
I just got done creating my Death Knight, Bomalicious.
The quest series is great, and very easy. I went from start to finish in less than 2.5 hours and was about 20% into level 58 when I logged.
If you haven’t done this yet, do it ASAP. The Battle for Light’s Hope Chapel is absolutely the coolest thing I have ever seen or done in a video game.
Tomorrow I’m going to level my hunter and my feral druid to 71 in Northrend.
And their method for preventing overcrowding after the first couple levels of DK is freaking amazing. My husband and I were grouped, and he was commenting on the area, and I think I was the first of us to twig to what was happening.
He was talking about the changes in the zone that the DKs were creating, how the starter ‘village’ was getting better guards, and then ‘hey, those village buildings weren’t burning before’, and was convinced that the players’ growing numbers and so on were remaking the area. I tried to think what that would be like for the starting lvl 55s until suddenly I realized we were in a complicated type of “instancing”, where once you completed a certain series of quests, the starting area changed to reflect that, until finally sending you to Light’s Hope and then into the “real” game world.
Death Knight is already my favorite class and I’m only at 58. I love the armor you start with and the style of combat is interesting. Its fast paced like rogues but you get plate like warriors and you can use a wide variety of “spells” like paladins. I think of it as some kind of hybrid of those three plus a lot of new disease stuff.
I was running around the Burning Steppes last night but rather than only killing quest foes I was acting like a death knight. It was pretty gruesome, and fun. But I really love all the starting quests the best.
I’ve got so many powers right now that I have a hard time figuring out which to use, so I just use plenty of death coil and my blood talent tree instant power, and some other stuff that seems best (that yank is an awesome spell).
Overall Blizzard was very creative in the way they have made Death Knights really feel new and different. I’m going to have to get a 55 on another server just so I can go through all the quests again and pay more attention to stuff this time.
The level 70-80 stuff hasn’t really been as exciting as I was expecting yet. Its not bad but I guess its just not as cool as the Death Knight stuff so far. And thats a high bar to meet. I’m only 4 bars in towards 71 on my Shadow Priest though.
The starting area I’m in is very confusing geographically. In order to get somewhere the obvious way has rarely been the right way.
I’ll tell you, the expansion is certainly a boon for anyone about levels 66 to 69, if you want to get to 70 quicker. The mobs in Northrend give almost double experience of equivalent targets anywhere else; so my 67 pally kills a 69 target anywhere else and gets 1100-1200 XP, but in Northrend gets 1900-2000. Fast track, baby.
Yeah, the DK area and starting quest is great. I was bored in HF pretty quickly with my lock, it’s simply too easy, but I guess I should’ve expected that. Dear lord though, I was missing bad jokes in /1; the constant dumb questions are infinately worse.
I’m with a few others - needing to level a skill before progressing. For me it’s mining and finding 3 more Thorium Veins. I’ve been doing loops in the Burning Steppes and the Plaguelands, but it’s as if someone has been there before me!
My main is a level 60 Holy Paladin, so I’m not yet into any of the WOTLK stuff, but I’ve run into my fair share of Death Knights.
I ran AV (Alterac Valley) several times last night and the number of Death Knights per OTHER classes in the Battle Ground increased with each new game. The last game I played was all DK’s, and (I believe) me, another Paladin, a hunter and a warrior…
Granted, I’m not complaining - it was a healing feast for me alone! Bwahaha!
Oh and MindWanderer, ‘Yank’, so that’s what was flinging me across the screen last night…
Try Un’Goro Crater or Hinterlands. I’m actually finding Hinterlands to be relatively abandoned on my server, so there’s thorium and truesilver everywhere. Look in Skulk Rock and along the coast. Aside from the occasional ganking*, my mining has been peaceful.
*My guildmates always avenge me, so no biggie.
I stopped by Wal-mart to pick this up after work last night and they were sold out. Oh well; I couldn’t plan last night anyway. Headed out to lunch today to check out Best Buy, two Targets and a GameStop. If all of them are out I might start panicking.
Good idea! I’ll try that tonight. I’d leveled a bit in both places, so I’ve got a few veins pre-marked with gatherer - though I remember mainly finding Mithril as I wasn’t high enough to mine the Thorium while there.
I may try Winterspring as well, though only because I find the area so very pretty.
Skammer - Best of luck getting the game!
Last night my son started playing at around 10ish. He doesn’t have class on Fridays. When I woke up to go to work around 5ish, he was still playing with his friends.
So, if I have a level 57 I can make a Dark Knight? I think I’ll wait to do that.
Any bones thrown down to lower levels? Gear? Quests? Mobs? Stuff?
By stuff I mean something like The Lament of the Highborne that was added in with the Ghostlands. Neat things that Blizzard likes to do.
