Has Allawi said anything even remotely critical about the U.S. or coalition forces prior to this? Have to wonder if it was a fluke tempremental outburst or an indication of deeper issues.

What’s the debate, exactly? Whether Allawi has been critical on prior occasions, whether Allawi’s criticism is justified, what Allawi’s motivations are for criticizing?
This actually strengthens Bushes credibility, somewhat indirectly,by having the PM speak some of his mind it slightly disproves he’s a puppet of the US.
I think it means Cheney needs one hand free and can’t keep the other one up the butt of Bush and Allawi simultaneously.
No president, even a sock puppet, wants his soldiers and his police force taken out as easily as it has been done.
When Allawi agrees with Bush, it strengthens Bush’s credibility.
When Allawi disagrees with Bush, it strengthens Bush’s credibility.
When Allawi lies face-down and blows a fecal fountain into the center hole on the skeeball track, it strengthens Bush’s credibility.
What, pray tell, would it take to damage Bush’s credibility?
Well maybe it shows that Iraqs PM is allowed a little independence, you know that was one of our objectives  . Or maybe you are insensed that the PM is speaking his mind, contrary to the belief that he always does what Bush tells him to do and keeps his mouth shut.
I was posing the latter. Sorry if that was hazy.
My guess is that Allawi’s beginning to realize how much he needs to distance himself from Bush and the occupying forces in general to gain more credibility in the eyes of his countrymen.
There is no debate here. Only more liberal negativity and Bush bashing.
Perhaps in your world.
Yes, think happy thoughts and sing praise to The Leader.
See, the world is beautifull.
Don’t forget to vohote… bye bye, have a nice day.
allawi was criticizing the occupation forces a few months ago, right after the transfer of sovereignty, i believe. my guess is it’s a political ploy for him to gain credibility among his own people. for as many misgivings as i have with this tactic in my own country, i’m a lot more supportive of it in a country that might soon be verging on civil war.
Well, why don’t you tell us what the debate is then, since the OP clearly does not contain one.
Clearly the debate is: “Is there a debate?”
Seems to be a bit of an epidemic these days.
Woohoo!! A new logical fallacy is born!
Argumentum est Nihilum!
Et tu, John?
In other words, is the tide changing for Allawi’s rah-rah-U.S. stance, as witnessed by the Mini-Me performance he gave next to Bush at a recent American press conference, or was this a rash comment that he’ll likely back-pedal on? (The White House was trying to chalk it up yesterday to a “bad translation.”)
P.S. I can accept if the OP was somehow vague, but do Dopers really need a question/subject for discussion posed to them in big bold capitals? You’re all pretty sophisticated folks, for the most part.
Yeah, I can understand confusion about the OP (since I was confused by it too), but I’m surprised they didn’t pick up on your post #8 which explained what the proposed debate was.
Well, of course the guy has to distance himself from the US government to some extent in order to have legitmacy in the eyes of Iraqis. I don’t think that’s much of a debate.
Maybe it’s just me (although the debaters aren’t exactly knocking down the doors of this thread), but the OP looked like nothing more than yet another Bush bashing in the form of “Hey, Bush’s guy in Iraq isn’t toeing the line anymore”. Add to that the poisoned well aspect of the thread title and it really doesn’t add up to much.
Yeahh. . . listen, the whole “Where’s the debate?” mantra is getting a little tedious, bud. If I may direct you to the sign on the door, this forum is for simple discussion as well as hardcore point/counterpoint. To imply a topic isn’t worth anyone’s time (after believing you’ve sniffed out the poster’s “motives”) is almost as condescending as your gratuitious put-down regarding the thread’s popularity. You don’t think something’s worth your time, maybe the best idea is to keep walking. I’d rather a thread of mine languish in obscurity than be bumped by haughty inquiries as to its value.
To the folks who found this topic at least somewhat worthy of discussion, Kimstu, Ryan_Liam, Dan Blather, capacitor, Cervaise, Ramanujan- thanks for kicking it around.
