Anyone seen the trailers for this? If you have, you’ll see why I wasn’t sure whether to put this in the Game Room or not.
I think it’s interesting, apart from the cameos of actual video game characters that I’m geeking over (I have no doubt Toy Story helped a LOT in securing rights), in that it’s obviously made to appeal not only to kids, but to their parents, who grew up on the '80’s video games that the title character is part of (fictionally, I mean). (That and the jab shown in one trailer over how dark and violent modern games are compared to the original generations.) I think that says a lot about the influence of gaming (video gaming in particular in this case) on our culture.
Goddammit, I should’ve known. Oh, well. Consider the discussion of Disney’s approach to marketing/writing this movie, and what it says about gaming and American culture, as the main topic.
Here’s a legal question, though: one of the cameos is Shuma-Gorath from Marvel vs. Capcom. As a comic book character in origin, would the rights to use him come exclusively from Marvel, or would Capcom have say as well?
