I’m planning my first trip to the Write Patterson Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH and am wondering about the shuttle buses to the Presidential and the Research and Development sections. It says on the web site to “get there early”, how early are we talking? How fast do these buses fill up? Anyone have any experience with this?
If I go there and don’t get to see Valkrie, I might puke. :smack:
When I was stationed at Wright-Patt, it wasn’t hard to get on the bus to see the Presidential Hangar. I may be misremembering how easy it was because I had a base decal and could drive over there any time I liked… but I’m pretty sure I took the bus and it was a short little hop. The website I’m reading says that
It’s a military base, so expect the bus to leave at 9:30. If you want to be safe, be standing at the bus stop fifteen minutes early. If that one is full, go back inside and have a look around… then show up a half-hour early for the next bus. I don’t think it’s first-come first-served, though: the website mentions a “sign up” of some sort – you might do well to show up when the museum opens, ask the ticket taker where you go to sign up, and then make that roster your first stop.
I was talking with someone at work today about the museum and he mentioned the shuttle buses. He said something about getting there early, get a ticket, walk around the rest of the museum and then show up for the shuttle at your designated time. I’m driving from Indy (via Dundalk, hon ) on a Monday morning and didn’t really want to get up at the butt crack of dawn if I didn’t have to. I guess to be on the safe side, I’d better.
