A good friend of mine didn’t show up for our power flex class last Friday. We soon found out that she had gone to the dentist Wednesday afternoon and as she was getting ready to pay then leave, a 16 year old girl lost control of her car and came smashing into the dentist office.
My friend was hit by the car as well as flying glass and wallboard. Her pelvic bone was shattered in three places, her foot broken, and she received lacerations all over her body. She is expected to make a slow recovery, but she will live.
How freaky is that? You are standing at the reception counter paying your bill when BAM!, you’re hit by a car. Two minutes later and she would have been out the door and gone.
A few weeks ago (late April, early May) my mother was at a quilting class. She was sitting in her chair a couple of feet from the wall. This was in a small shopping center–one-story, glass storefronts, etc.
As she was sitting there she says she felt vibrating and hear a very loud roaring-type sound. On what was apparently instinct of one kind or another, she dove forward out of her chair towards/underneath the table in front of them. A Mercedes then came through the wall, coming to rest over the spot where she had just been.
It seems the car had accelerated uncontrollably in the parking lot outside (stuck pedal or something), travelled through the glass between two supports of the unoccupied store space next door and gone through the interior wall of the quilting shop.
My mother ended up with a couple of broken ribs, but nothing worse. The woman next to her evidently got hit by pieces of the wall (she was out of the direct path of the car) and suffered more serious injuries, though I don’t recall what.
And I found out about it in a phone call the next day. Kind of random…
