WTC: Bigger and better

There are no words to describe the horror of what has happened. I offer my sympathy to those who have lost their nearest and dearest, knowing that this is woefully inadequate. I would suggest, however, a positive thought: The World Trade Center is gone, but what better response could there be than to build it back, bigger and better than before? Current building technology can produce a structure many times higher than anything which currently exists. I have read that it is not beyond the bounds of modern architecture to create buildings a kilometer high or greater. If the US devoted a fraction of the effort that was involved in the Apollo moon landings to this, building hard and fast, they could create a building which the world would marvel at, and also spit in the eye of the scum that took the lives of so many innnocent people.

(Nerv’s first OP–I felt it was important.)

Let’s just hope we don’t end up with an Apollo 13 on our hands.

(I’m talking about what you’re comparing it to just in case ppl don’t pick up on that)

Yes, but what happens when THAT building is hit by a plane? It would be a far more attractive target than the ESB or UN Headquarters and it would demoralize Americans greatly. But I am not opposed to Tracer’s World-Trade-Center-atron, as that would be really really cool.

I think it’s indicative of the kind of paranoia this thing can breed when my reaction was the same as Jellydonut’s. However, the reasoning that we can’t have anything great and monumental because it presents a tempting target for terrorists is a terrible attitude. We should rebuild it as a single large tower, and call it the Twin Tower. I suggest that simply because I like weird names with good stories behind them.

Is it substantially more difficult to protect a 200-storey building than a 110-storey one? Is a 30-storey building safer? I agree totally with Trucido. Would you prefer to cower and hide? Build all new structures underground?

Build it big and tall. If someone comes to hurt us again, we go and destroy them just as we should be doing real soon.

Well, I know Donald Trump’s been foaming at the mouth to build the World’s Biggest Erect Penis for a few years now, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he eventually took the opportunity of WTC’s vacancy to try to build it there. After all, what thwarted him so far was condo associations suing him for proposing to block their city views. WTC’s site wouldn’t have such problems, and would thus be a perfect candidate.

I hope not, tho. Trump’s ego/insecurity is the last thing we need to get involved in this. I say build a new place, along with a tasteful memorial of course, and make it big. But don’t get into this ridiculous “world’s tallest” contest. One thing I admire most about NY is that the people there genuinely don’t need the world’s biggest cock to consider themselves the world’s coolest city. Leave such expressions for lesser metropolises.

Oh, and give the new WTC surface-to-air missiles. That would be neat.

You’re right. It would be tasteless if a tasteless person like Trump built a new building there to massage his large ego. (I was at the US Open women’s finals last week and found pleasure in the entire stadium booing when the toupeed clot was shown on the big screen). I like the idea of naming the new building The Twin Tower, as mentioned above. It gives an air of being back from the rubble, stronger than before, unified into one bigger entity rather than broken apart. But lets leave it to the people of the city and nation to build this and not rich self-centered nitwits with bad wigs.

Also it would be imperative to have a monument put somewhere dedicated to all the lost souls and the countless heroes, who died and are still with us, who have proved what greatness Man(kind) is capable of (something those animals who caused this and who are burning in hell right now - what I wouldn’t give to see that - could never understand).
