WTF?!!! Are they really eating gazelles because they don't like their rations?

Clint, you’re still an idiot.

Enjoy,
Steven

Try working of your reading comprehension, you inbred fucksack, because animal rights haven’t been mentioned anywhere in this thread.

I give up, if grammar doesn’t get you, typos do.

Ok, I finally got off my ass and wrote down all the species of gazelle that are endangered in Iraq. My fears are not entirely unfounded because there are 6 sub species found in Iraq that are endangered. There is a repetition of common names, but their formal names are different. They are:Arabian Goitered gazelle, Arabian Sand gazelle, Goitered gazelle, Goitered gazelle Sand gazelle, Saudi gazelle, Saudi gazelle. I’d like to know if they are eating one these 6, or if there is a very prolific kind that was being bred.

I don’t really think that Saddam would care if they were or not, it would probably be just his style to breed an endangered species for his plate. It would probably make the meal more tasty in his mind.

It makes me upset because as others have pointed out, they don’t belong to the USA, and we should not decide their fate. If we really are focused on liberating Iraq, we’d take more care with it’s eco-systems too.

I don’t think it occurred to the officers in charge to identify the species of gazelle to make certain it was not endangered, they just saw a small deer, and heard their stomach rumble. I can understand this, I love venison myself. However, they should have checked before authorizing the hunts.
FTR, I’m not with PETA, or Greenpeace, I’m just a person who took a college sophmore level class on environmental science my sophmore year in high school. (Bless you Mr. Willis wherever you are now.) I will say that, I cannot gaurentee that my actions would be peaceful if I ever caught someone tormenting my pets.

This science teacher was wonderful. I still remember him teaching us about acid rain, and soil leaching in Biology 1. Most of the class could not follow him though. He had a tropical plant, and he pointed to some leaves that were yellowed, and brown at the edges. He gently guided the class to the conclusion that it was a problem with the plant’s soil, it wasn’t acidic enough. He had a large closet in his classroom where he had a coffeepot. He had been carrying coffee grounds around the room the whole lesson. He nudged the class into remembering that coffee grounds were acidic, and then put the coffee grounds at the root of the plant. The plant got better. Very nicely done, I thought.

I realize that to further scientific knowledge experiements must be performed, but I think they should not be needlessly cruel. I also think that people who torment, and abuse animals willfully should be punished. This does not mean I’m an animal rights ACTIVIST. If I see that someone is breaking the law, and being cruel to an animal, or neglecting it, I’ll report them. I do my best not to pollute, and I recycle/reuse. That is the extent of my “activism”. I think there are quite a few out there of like mind too. I think of it as being a good world citizen.

Department of Defense. I’ve never tried to contact anyone through that site. It appears that it is possible.

Just chiming in as another Doper who has eaten 2-3 MRE’s a day for 45+ days. They suck. They all suck. I don’t care if you have a “favorite” after eating them for a week, but 2-3 weeks there are no “favorites”. They all taste like shit.

Besides, I am sure after the first week of everyone eating their “favorites” there was only Spam Steak left anyway.

I would have eaten me some gazelle as well. Hell, I’d love the smell.

Eh. Gazelle are deer, right? We’ve got deer here. They’re yummy. They’re pretty, and cute when they jump around, but they’re also meat on legs. If these gazelles are on Hussein’s hunting preserve, I’m going to assume they’re just deer and intended to be food, until some biologist looks at the pictures and identifies it as an endangered species. It doesn’t seem much different than raiding his pantries for goodies. They’re just eating Hussein’s meat. Let the soldiers have fresh meat if they want it.

Mmm… forbidden Marines.

This list means nothing until you present some sort of evidence that the gazelles being killed and eaten are one of those endangered species.

Right?

Bricker,

Stop being so fucking sensible. Animals are dying here!! Animals who, possibly, perhaps, maybe, are endangered. We must condemn the soldiers before we know any more facts!!

Sua

While I don’t have enough facts to comment on the OP, I just wanted to compliment Zabali on being environmentally conscious.

So, an unknown number of PLATOONS are daily EACH killing one of an unknown number of domesticated gazelles of unknown species, possibly endangered. Oh, FUCK! I’m with Clint!

They’ve prolly stopped by now. Venison gets old, day after day, I’m sure.

Well, technically, the number that each platoon is killing is known as 1, not unknown.

:stuck_out_tongue:

At least according to the rules.

“I agree with the guy who posted the useless sentence fragment that had nothing to do with the topic! People who actually read the thread before posting are dorks!”

:smack:

Well, I’m with World Eater . Zabali , it’s always nice to see someone being concerned and articulately defending themselves!

Is there a legitimate news source that can confirm this?

Associated Press?

Well, unless the soldiers bought the animals I think we are safe to assume they had no right to them. Stealing, plain and simple. They have as much right to the gazelles as to the property in the palaces. Zero. It is stealing, plain and simple. And I would say those Iraqis who are going hungry would not appreciate the Americans doing this.

And yeah, Clint is an idiot.

Please, point of pride here, sailor and Sua. These are Marines killing and stealing maybe-endangered-maybe-not gazelles. Not soldiers.

Soldiers were caught stealing money. Marines are stealing meat.
