I wouldn’t go anywhere near that hell-pit. But thanks anyway.
I don’t think they meant it to be voluntary.
Well, these hundreds of busses might’ve helped, especially considering that the evacuation order was given (necessarily) much ahead of time…
For god’s sake, what the fuck is your brain damage? Care to explain what illegal immigration has to do with the topic on hand, which is why Mexico can run a large scale evacuation and we can’t?
You’re missing the part when Frankenstein Monster said the US is now a fourth world country because we didn’t bus everyone out of the path of Katrina, but the Mexicans successfully bussed lots of tourists out of the path of their hurricane.
So apparently the status of your country is directly related to how many people you can bus.
This isn’t directed at you specifically, but I’m sick of people on these boards gleefully clapping their hands together and pronouncing America a third or fourth world country when these same people just a few months ago were crying, “America is the richest country in the world, why aren’t they paying more for the tsunamiiiiiii!!!”
Oh Steph96? I think I hear your momma calling. I’ve saved you a seat on the bus.
Apparently if you ask the authorities…specifically the state Department of Homeland Security…such supplies “would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.” Which is one of the reasons why, for example, the Red Cross is still not in the city of New Orleans itself.
I wish I was making this up, but I’m not. The evacuation is moving at a glacial pace, there are news reports that people being turned away at checkpoints when they try to leave New Orleans under their own power, and at the same time relief efforts are being hampered because someone apparently believes that people might come to New Orleans just to get free food.
Yeah, he engaged in a bit of hyperbole. So what? We’re still fucking this operation up big time. Why, for example, is it a good idea to actively keep aid out of the city? What sort of deranged thought process leads to that conclusion?
You made that abundantly clear. I gathered you were not someone with the urge to help anyone. My best guess is that you are 15-18 yrs old, idealistic (just the “bad” idealism) and no where near New Orleans.
If you are older I am sorry that you appear to have the selfishness of a teenager. One day Karma will poke you in the face.
