Wushu

Does anybody know of any good wushu teachers in the Shenzhen or Hong Kong areas? Does anyone know how one might go about finding such information? That said, what, in your opinion, makes a good martial arts teacher? For that matter, what makes a “good” martial art or style?

Nope. Phone book?

Patience, willingness to help each student individually, desire for all students to succeed (but not willing to hand out promotions just to keep the student).

Are you looking for self-defense or competition training or something that has a larger “lifestyle” approach? All three are valid and usually completely different.

Maybe try e-mailing these guys: fightin’ fit. They may be able to put you in touch with someone.

I have what I would consider a great martial arts teacher. I 2nd what Chairman Pow said. My teacher is very patent. He is also very open and answers all questions directed at him, not only by his students, but also by those that are interested in signing up for the class. He doesn’t believe in keeping secrets from anyone and has told us that if we are ever looking around at other classes, be aware of the places that won’t let you watch. He is very good at giving feedback to his students. He’s not a marshmellow though and keeps a pretty strict class. He also teaches what really works in the real world, and not only what is part of the style.

What makes a good martial art? Any and all of them are good, depending on what you are looking to get out of it. A lot depends on the teacher though, so I wouldn’t get turned off by one particular style just because the teacher is an ass.
