WW 2 peace talks still ongoing

Not a misprint. Russia and Japan never signed a treaty

Given what’s written in the article you linked to, maybe your thread title should have beeen “WW2 peace talks no longer ongoing”.

They will never resolve the Kuril Islands, but it would be political suicide in Japan to give up and accept the de facto status quo. Unfortunately, it does give Russia a lever to use against the Japanese government.

Korean war never officially ended with a treaty. They stopped fighting in 1953 with an armistance

and WW1? Andorra signed peace with Germany in 1958 but not with Italy or Austria-Hungary.

Maybe Japan can use this as a pretext to continue the war. Can Russia support a two-front war?

Hey, I’m just asking questions!

They might still get peace with Italy, but it’s a little late for peace talks with the Dual Monarchy.

Andorra and Italy were on the same side in WWI.

Oh sorry! I’ve got carried to the wrong war. Ottoman Empire i meant, and yes since hose two vanished and Andorra was forgotten in the relevant treaties, war isn’t officially over (not that anyone feels too concerned…)

The northern islands are mostly a thing by the ultranationalists and not something which ordinary Japanese tend to be very concerned about. There are some links between the right right and the ruling LDP party so they can’t be ignored but it’s not a big thing for most people.

But we can all take comfort that the Isles of Scilly and the Netherlands finally ended their over 3 century long war in 1986.
