I don’t know if anyone’s posted anything about this History Channel presentation before (and I think it is a series), but…holy shit is it powerful. Full color, redone HD imagery, graphic, sad, crazy, unique and previously unseen WWII footage presented in a narrative format with voice overs from mostly well-known actors…Jesus Christ this is compelling and fresh look at WWII all over again.
A must see for WWII buffs.
I am going to try a link to lead you to it, but it may not work as its associated with my account. I just started watching this…anyone else seen it and care to comment?
Seriously…

I added it to my instant queue.
Perfect timing, as my wife asked me to add something interesting to the instant queue to balance some of the lighter stuff we’ve been watching lately.
Thanks for the recommendation.
I’m still watching it…its very well done.
I have to say, the way this is presented really makes you feel like you are there as the war unfolds. So far, its an incredible production. I urge anyone with a passing interest in history to check it out, even if some regard the History Channel as a distorter of facts. I have never seen much of this footage in color from that era. It is really good.
On a related note, you can watch Frank Capra’s “Why We Fight” series at the Internet Archive.
I like the way they are “blending” narration from the actual old guy that survived the war and is recounting it on camera with the voice-over actor from the battle footage.
Jesus…its hard to imagine living through that as a child.
Ditto. Thanks for the heads up!
Since this is a movie/TV recommendation, I’m going to move it to Cafe Society.

I bought it on Blu Ray late last year at Best Buy for only $20. Looks like you can get it for $16.99 at Amazon - a hell of a deal for something like 9 hours of footage.
I’m on episode 2. I have to remark that this is some fucking compelling and very well-edited footage.
And the fact that Lieutenant Dan is the narrator is all kinds of awesome.
