Wynand Fockink Superior Gerijpte Genever

So, I have been gifted with a bottle of Wynand Fockink Superior Gerijpte Genever. Now what? I am not very familiar with malt jenevers. Should I use it like a gin (with tonic or in a martini)? Should I chill it and drink it straight? Any suggestions?

I swear to Bob that when I read the title of this thread on the main CS page, I thought you were drunk as fuck when you typed it.

Never heard of Wynand Fockink Superior Gerijpte Genever before; is it like Kroperniik Bmbmli Awesome Herpidurp Hinkklhidee?

:stuck_out_tongue:

No familiarity with the particular spirit in question, but definitely don’t try to make a martini with it. Genevar and London Dry Gin have little more than a passing resemblance.

I believe genevar is usually drunk straight. I bought a bottle of aged genevar once. Not enough to get a real sense of it; it reminded me of calvados more than anything.

Its Dutch, gerijpte jenever just means ‘aged jenever’ (jenever being the Ducth name for the gin-like liquor). Wynand Fockink is the name of the guy who opened the distillery it comes from.

Whether it’s any good, I don’t know… I don’t particularly like jenever. One way it is often drunk, is as a shot followed by beer (sometimes they put the shotglass in the beer and do it in one movement). This combination is called a ‘kopstoot’ or headbut.

When I read the thread title, I wondered for just a moment if I were having a stroke, or perhaps simply going insane.

Drink it like you would whisky, not gin.

Thank you. That’s the feedback I needed. Into the freezer with it, and to a cordial glass when cold enough.

Shit, you should do commercials for them:

“I’m Phnord Prephect and I love Wynand Fockink Superior Gerijpte Genever!”

The print ads would surely drive people to drink! Or stop drinking, maybe.

Hehehehe.

“I’m Phnord Prephect, and I love Wine and Fucking Superior Gurpty Jennifer!” hic

Kopstoot is drunk with jonge (=young) jenever, not gerijpte. There’s a difference, with the jonge jenever being far less like gin than the aged jenever, which makes me think that this particular jenever might actually be good in a G&T as well.
