*I’m sure I got this wrong, but I could swear someone’s ‘name’ had to do with the color white. Or maybe I’ve just got my wires crossed.
bah. On reading everyone’s answers, I realize I was thinking of the Well-Manicured Man. Maybe I’ll get lucky and there was still a “Mr. White” in there somewhere.
Also: hooray for Flukeman! I wasn’t sure anyone else would pick him (Jersey Devil was my runner up).
OK, using Mully’s tool I’ve scored the game. Not as many responses as I’d hoped, but its not surprising since this a pretty dated, geeky, niche topic and a lot of the clues baffled people. An awful lot of unique answers. One note, I took any blank answer or a “pass” and changed it no “No Answer” and gave points. Considering how varied some of the responses were, having that as a response got more points than a actual answer. I was conflicted on if this was fair, but in the spirit of the Feud I decided an “I don’t know” is an equally valid representation of the population as anything else.
Here’s the answers:
**1. Other than Mulder and Scully, name a recurring character. **
- The Cigarette Smoking Man 10
- Skinner 8
- Alex Krycek 3
I was surprised that there was so little variety in this answer. This seemed like the answer that the most casual fan would find easiest to answer. No mention of the Lone Gunmen here or Doggett/Reyes. This had fewer unique answers than #5 which only has 3 correct possibilities!
2. Other than “The Truth Is Out There”, give me an opening tagline you remember.
2. Trust No one 10
2. I Want to Believe 3
2. No Answer 3
2. Deny Everything 1
2. Everybody Dies 1
2. Paranormal 1
2. Resist or Serve 1
2. Something, something, and obfuscate 1
I expected this to be a tricky one, I was hoping someone would drop in the Anasazi alphabet one. Geektastic.
**3. Name one of the “Monster of the Week” Villains. **
3. Tooms 7
3. Flukeman 4
3. The Jersey Devil 4
3. Capybrya 1
3. Forest bugs things 1
3. I forget the name but it Giovanni Ribisi and he could hit people with lightning 1
3. Leonard, the parasitic carnie twin 1
3. Robert Modell 1
3. The native American werewolf dude 1
Tooms was the guy that was on my mind when I formed the question but I didn’t really expect it to be the most common. I think Zebra was looking for the Chupacabra instead of the Capybara. Heh.
4. Other than the F.B.I. give a government agency who are mentioned in the show.
4. CIA 5
4. NASA 5
4. CDC 4
4. FEMA 2
4. NSA 2
4. ATF 1
4. DOD 1
4. US Air Force 1
Think just about every possibility except for the FCC was covered here.
5. Name one of The Lone Gunmen.
5. Frohike 13
5. No Answer 3
5. Byers 2
5. Goofy 1
5. Langly 1
5. Oswald 1
Only one person liked Langly? More people had no idea than named Byers? I did not expect this to be such a crapshoot considering it spawned a spin-off series.
6. Other than the Cigarette Smoking Man, name a member of The Syndicate.
6. Well-Manicured Man 6
6. Deep Throat 4
6. Bill Mulder 3
6. Alex Krycek 2
6. No Answer 2
6. Charles Nelson Reilly 1
6. Crap. Uhh, that guy who sounds like he should be in the Mob. I channel him in court sometimes 1
6. Mr. White 1
6. Rohrer 1
Didn’t expect Mulder’s dad to get as much love as he did and I’m surprised no one mentioned Mr X.
7. Other than Cris Carter, name someone who wrote an episode of the show.
7. David Duchovny 4
7. No Answer 4
7. Darrin Morgan 2
7. Frank Spotnitz 2
7. Gillian Anderson 2
7. William Gibson 2
7. Harlan Ellison 1
7. John Shiban 1
7. Jose Chung 1
7. Stephen King 1
7. Vince Giligan 1
When I wrote this question I expected most people to mention Steven King, William Gibson or Duchovny because of their affinity for “guest” authors in the middle seasons. I didn’t expect as many of the non-famous writers to get love.
8. List an Episode Title.
8. Jose Chung’s From Outer Space 5
8. No Answer 3
8. The Beginning 2
8. ? 1
8. Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose 1
8. Dod Kalm 1
8. Home 1
8. Ice 1
8. Memento Mori 1
8. Pilot 1
8. Sleepless 1
8. Small Potatos 1
8. The Erlenmeyer Flask 1
8. The Truth 1
This was a tricky one unless you have the DVDs or read a lot of online synopses and I knew From Out Space would be a fave, but I also thought that more of the more famous episodes like Anasazi, The Erlenmeyer Flask, EBE, Tunguska or the Monster of the Week ones in #3 would be mentioned.
**9. Name a TV channel which has shown syndicated reruns of the X-Files. **
9. Sci-Fi 9
9. FX 5
9. TNT 2
9. Channel 11 1
9. City TV 1
9. No Answer 1
9. The WB 1
9. Virgin1 1
No surprises here. Bit of a challenge for our non-USA dopers.
10. Just for kicks, pick a common Mulder and Scully costume/prop cliche.
10. Cell phone 4
10. Flashlight 3
10. Porn 3
10. Mulder’s slide shows 2
10. Scully’s Necklace 2
10. Trenchcoat 2
10. Crappy rental car 1
10. FBI badge 1
10. Mulder’s office poster 1
10. Mulder’s second gun! 1
10. Sunflower seeds 1
I originally wrote this question as a multiple choice and only included “Gun, Badge, Trenchcoat” and “Cell Phone”. Glad I changed it to see how many people remembered Mulder’s love of porn!
And now for our winner.

I did issue quite a few penalties because of people putting in spaces between the answers and adding commentary in their responses. Going forward the rules can probably be updated to instruct people to limit their commentary to after they’ve listed all their answers.

(edit) Boo. I guess it was 50 responses or 5pm, whichever came sooner. I figured it would have been later.
Man, I should have gone with From Outer Space, which is my favorite episode, as my guess for the episode title.
What episode did Stephen King write?
Whew…did better than I thought, especially when I went back and checked the taglines and found that “I Want to Believe” isn’t one of them! Thank God a couple of us misremembered that one!
I didn’t think it had been a tagline, but I remembered that it was Mulder’s poster, so went with it anyway.
I think the X-Files theme may have been better if it had been scored Scattergories style–any duplicate answers score zero points. Sadly, it seems no one wants to run any Scattergories games (we only had, what, 2?). Maybe I’ll consider hosting one, while I’ve got a break from my classes right now.
So if we were geeky enough to submit a unique (but correct) answer we got zero points, but if we submit the same thing that others do, we get *more * points? Seems counter-intuitive or something. :dubious:
Awesome! Thanks for a fun game.
I do this in all the feud games, but I especially noticed it in this one – after I submit my answers, I follow the thread to see which of my fellow Dopers are proper thinking people who match my answers
and do a little cheer, for example, whenever I saw “Tooms” as answer.
Thats how the feud works. Doing it any other way would be a different gameshow.
