Y is for Yorick (Edward Gorey)

I love the Gashlycrumb Tinies, but I don’t quite understand “Y is for Yorick whose head was knocked in” Knocked in by what? What is that he’s looking at?

I’m going to say the pediment toppled off that masonry. He often has people being brained by masonry.

That’s what I’ve always thought.

That’s what I’ve always thought.

While looking for images of Yorick, I came across this sight where someone had staged and photgraphed the scenes from the book using dolls. Awesome.

Yeah, off the top of my head, the Hapless Child’s only living relative, an uncle, gets brained by a piece of masonry, and the Author who went for a walk gets killed by an Urn that was dislodged from the sky. And I think a falling statue may have been one of the traps the family left for the Beastly Baby.

Those dolls from the Edward Gorey museum. I don’t remember them being there when I visited a long time ago - time for another trip I guess.
