Y: The Last Man (spoilers)

I just read #10, and the last page was such a shock, I laughed out loud.

Speculation on why all the males died? Why the two male astronauts didn’t? And what will happen when they get back to Earth?

I think it must have something to do with magic, like Yorick guessed, even though it doesn’t seem to be that kind of world Brian K. Vaughn has created. I can’t think of any natural cause that would act the way the “male plague” in this series did.

Oh, thank God. I thought I was the only person here reading this book.

But what do you think?

Am I the only one wo thinks the idea for this series is so cliched i have been making jokes about"the last man on earth" pornos for 10 years

Yeah, effac3d I have to agree. Although I haven’t read it, sounds like definite wank-fest material, right on par with ‘the curious ability to halt time’.

If you read it, you wouldn’t think that, guys.

Best. Comic. Ever.

OK, maybe not – but it’s only 10 issues in, and so far it’s better than either Sandman or The Invisibles after ten issues.

It’s not a spoiler I think to note that in this issue Yorick said bitterly “Y’know, for half a second I thought this last man on earth thing might be fun.” But fun is by no means what Yorick has encountered so far.

I also think this series is particularly well suited for the form; the cliffhangers are never really forced but are true moments of suspense and waiting a month to see the resolution every issue is exquisitely painful.

If you don’t start reading this book soon, you’re going to be kicking yourself five years from now.

P.S. Lucifer’s good too.

I agree, Lucifer also rocks.

Yorick’s travails have made it clear to me that I certainly would not want to be the last man (or even one of the last three). Yorick has gotten off lucky so far, really; the last man almost certainly would wind up someone’s exhausted pet in a high tower.

I’m wondering what’s going to happen to the astronauts. Seems like it would be more interesting if they don’t die when they return to Earth; on the other hand, there’s the title of the book…
