Yahoo groups - terrorist recruitment site?

I sincerely hope this is somebody’s idea of a joke. I received a forwarded e-mail from my mother-in-law with this tidbit of info, cut and pasted from the e-mail in question:

"This person is using Yahoo to round up flunkies for more terrorist activities inside the US. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SulHind if you don’t believe me and just read what he has to say. Then I ask you to make a complaint to Yahoo at the link that follows. http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/groups/cgi_abuse "
My wife is checking this out on Snopes - there’s a good chance it’s just a very distasteful joke. Either way, I’ve checked the group out and complained to Yahoo because I’m offended. Please check it out for yourselves and make your own decision.

If a joke, that has to be the most distasteful and disgusting thing I have seen a person do…

Unfortunately, there really is nothing we can do about it, legally, because of the 1st amendment… Though I’m sure the FBI will have a ball beating the hell out of the person they find that made that…

Hey don’t worry! The 1st Amdendment doesn’t apply to private organisations like Yahoo. These are same people that buckled under pressure from the French to not sell Nazi memorobilia; they will collapse like a Jenga tower being played by Jay Charles and Stevie Wonder. The site will be pulled the second anybody with authority at Yahoo becomes aware of its existance.

My guess is that it’s a hoax of some kind. If not, the founder is one of the most naive revolutionaries to have ever attempted building support for a cause.

Not quite. Actually, the description of the group states that the groups’s founder is interested in persons who wish to help “found a Khalifate of Osama bin Laden in India” (italics mine).

The link shows only one message posted so far, although the group has been active since October 10. In any event, Yahoo would quickly pull the plug if anything illegal were to be discussed there.

One additional, remote possibility: counterintel. Someone dragging a bit of bait to see how the fish are biting.

Like I said, Kabong, I just cut and pasted what was in the e-mail I received…Personally I don’t an amusing little word like “flunkie” to describe a frothing-at-the-mouth fanatic with genocidal hopes…

I’m not sure what to make of it, but I did send a complaint to Yahoo simply because it’s in such poor taste, and I made every effort to sound reasonable while pointing out exactly what kind of bad taste it’s in. I dunno if it’ll make a difference, but then again, Yahoo is a business and if a group they host is offending large numbers of people they just might shut it down.
