Both my sons have yahoo email and I’ve been sending them emails for years successfully. Recently Yahoo doesn’t really reject them but “defers” them telling me it will try for five days. If it doesn’t go through I don’t get any notice. This is a major problem because one is overseas and we communicate mainly through email. I tried having them both switch to the new Yahoo email even though they weren’t crazy about it. But this morning I got another notice. I am really, really pissed off about this and am going to try to get them to switch to another email provider. OR does anyone know what the problem is and the solution before I do that?
See if your IP address is on any blacklists.
Go to http://www.whatismyipaddress.com to see your IP address.
Then go to Email Blacklist Check - IP Blacklist Check - See if your server is blacklisted
Sometimes a computer or a block of computers from a particular ISP will get on a blacklist because the computer or one of the computers in the block is sending out spam - without knowing it. You could have a virus that is sending out spam and you don’t know.
Mail servers check IPs in mail headers against blacklists and will deny email if you’re found on the list. There’s no reason to be angry with the Yahoo mail server if this is the case - all mail servers are fighting an uphill battle against spam and would rather catch 100 spammers and get one false positive than to never have a false positive.
Then again if your machine is sending out a ton of spam without you knowing it, it’s not a false positive. You really should be blacklisted.
So, start there. See if you really should be blocked or not.
I checked and yes I was blocked. Thank you for that advice. I called my server and they said I probably had a virus. Even though I’m pretty good about running virus checks and malware checks, plus I have Defender and everything is updated e.g. Firefox, a virus was detected. I also ran a boot-time scan. Fairpoint has put in a trouble ticket for my account. Meanwhile I filled out a Yahoo! mail delivery form and gave them the details. So, I’m hoping I’ll be off the bad list!
I have a friend who insists on sending me a barrage of those stupid emails about cute stories, or don’t buy stuff from China. I never open anything in them but I’m wondering if a virus could get in that way. The scan found: Java: Agent-DU, DN, and DM.
I also have superantispyware, which Microsoft recommended. I don’t now what else to do except run them more often. Avast runs automatically when I boot up, but just the quick check. I guess I will start running a full scan every night.
I feel attacked from all sides whenever I go on the internet!
My bank accounts are all on a dedicated computer.
