Yard Sale Signs (and the like)

I live on a corner lot of a somewhat busy intersection. Because it’s a busy intersection, many feel the need to post their yard sale/football/new house/lost dog sign under the stop signs or they plant them near the stop signs.

In the summer, typically I remove the ones that are in my yard and throw them away. I get that there is a strip of land that’s not the road and is public property but since I maintain the grass there, well, it’s my yard and I can’t mow around the signs. Currently as I look across the intersection I can see 5 assorted signs and it’s bothering me. To me it looks trashy and I feel like walking around the intersection and throwing the lot of them in the trash. I know at least one of the signs is for a yard sale that was last Saturday.

My question is this, am I being a horrible member of my community for throwing away others notices (especially if their event hasn’t happened yet)?

For what it’s worth, I’m not even sure if it’s legal to post these signs here (Montgomery County MD). I’ve seen the SHA clearing these signs from the median up the street, but they never seem to make it this far out.

It depends. Taking down a “Work from home: $10,000 a week” signs are an easy target. OTOH, “Missing 3 year old girl last seen at 1st and Pine” is in bad taste to remove.

Around here they’re illegal on highway signs, or within a certain distance of the road. The city was randomly targeting spots and removing them. They finally revamped the signage laws later last year, so maybe they’ll enforce the laws better this year. I always remove signs that people put in front of our house.

I wouldn’t worry about it - as Shag said, missing kid? I’d leave it. Yard sale? It’s GONE. I’m certain your town must have an ordinance referring to it - I know my town does and come election time, our village council gets in an absolute uproar about signs on the parkways. Have you asked your governing body (whomever they may be - I don’t know your town) what their position is?

That’s funny

LOST KID
Answers to Amber
She has a black collar and is very affectionate towards people and other dogs.

Reward.
That’s cool. I mean I feel like sort of a jerk because for all I know, there are folks out there who were just laid off. They need to make 10,000 a week working at home because all they have to wear is a barrel with suspenders and it’s not casual Friday.

Thanks for being my backbone folks,

There may be an ordinance in your town that prohibits all that clutter. Call them and see if there’s anything to be done about it.

Unless you’re the one who abducted her. Then it’s just common sense.

Speaking of “in bad taste”…

I’m imagining what sort of people would post signs for their missing children.

Cleatus! That gol-darned kid has goan a missin’ 'gain. Will you get out the signs and hang 'em up 'round the block. I don’t wanna call social service ‘gain. Last time they made us promise to bathe lil’ Amber regular afore they gave her back.
