Someone needs to be the first openly gay player. Why not a devout Christian or are the two truly incompatible?
The funny part is not for Tebow but the part of his fandom that is overly pumped up about him as they think he is God’s chosen one. I doubt he thinks he is God’s chosen one and bet he is a little annoyed by it.
I’ve been waiting for a big name American sports star to come for a while now, because jock/sports culture is still decently homophobic. Even this article which tries to put a positive spin on it mentions that 57% of NFL players would accept a gay player… which means that a whopping 43% still wouldn’t!
We really need someone on the level of Albert Pujols or Lebron James to come out, someone so indisputably good at their sport that all of the haters in the locker room and in the bleachers would just have to eat it, or else be sabotaging their own team.
“We need to get rid of that shoe-in hall of famer with 5 MVPs because he, uh, does icky things in his bedroom! Yeah!”
i’m not saying it can or can not. i just find nothing specifically interesting or funny about it specifically being tim tebow.
and what part of his fandom would that be? just how sizable do you think the group in society that legitimately believes in the divine inspiration of tebow is? why is this group so loathsome that their disappointment will result in your schadenfreud?
maybe i’m being too sensitive but i’ve really had my fill of people targeting celebrities and unleashing their “righteous fury” on those target figures. those people who get worked up into a frenzy hating on tebow, bieber, the kardashians, snookie, etc. are much unlikable than the celebrities themselves. who really gives half a rat’s ass why those celebrities are objectionable? their transgressions to me are trivial compared to the transgressions of the counterculture movement. for instance, i find tebow’s love of his god much more tolerable than the sentiments of some here who think that wishing an ironic and socially unaccepted downfall of him would be funny.
*and don’t backpeddle and try to spin in to say that this is social commentary on how our society is unaccepting of homosexuality. the entire premise of this thread is predicated on that intolerance.
Bull. It is predicated as I explained. Don’t try to read my mine. I’ve said nothing bad about Tebow and I do think it would be great for Football, respect for gay people and a very funny ha-haw for the nutty religious followers of this kid.
Uh no, it was just a joke. It wasn’t even inspired by Tebow. It was prompted by the line “He is a nice young man who is waiting for Jesus to tell him who to marry.”
The line could have been about John Doe and I’d have had the same observation. I get that you don’t find it amusing but don’t read too much into it.
Public figures get commented on because they’re public figures. I’m betting that the vast majority of people talking about these people on the internet wouldn’t say the same things to them IRL.
For the most part, public figures NEED to be talked about in order to stay public figures and the whole gossip industry is based on this premise.
Now, I do believe that there is such a thing as bad publicity but idle fan gossip, even negative isn’t close to bad publicity. Your list of celebrities are all doing just fine.
Oh, and the answer to your question about the percentage of people believe his winning is divine intervention, Poll Position did a poll (oddly enough) and apparently it’s 43%.
