Seriously, the religious right have made him all but short of the second coming itself it seems like. Wouldn’t it be really cool if he was intensely devout and also gay? The blow to the Fundamentalist would be amazing. He could make it OK for players to be openly gay and maybe, just maybe, some homophobes would question their beliefs a bit.
He seems like a nice kid. He has had an amazing and unlikely run this year. The press and the overly religious have gone completely nuts about him though. Not his fault but it got me thinking that it would be pretty funny if he was gay.
“Hello, starving children! We have the food you’ve been waiting weeks for, but first, let’s read from the book of Psalms then communion, then we’ll bless each cave, THEN we’ll eat!”
Yes, ridiculous.
As far as football goes, and an opportunity for a great thread pun, I still say he’d make the best tight end you’d ever see play the field.
All Leviticus says is you’re not supposed to lie with a man as you would lie with a woman. So apparently it’s okay to have vaginal intercourse with women and anal intercourse with men.
Of course, Romans says that Christians are no longer bound by Leviticus. It was overturned by Jesus. So the proscription against male homosexuality has no more biblical authority than the proscription against eating pork.
Seriously, though, I simply find his constant reminders about his faith annoying. Nothing more than that level. Football athletes often point to the sky or credit God, but Tebow takes it to another level. I’d like Tim to follow Ecclesiastes 7:16.
As a football player, I like seeing him help break the mold of what a pro QB is.
I am with CitizenPained on this one.
You can be a good person and still consider yourself an evangelical Christian.
Or perhaps I should have said, you can be an evangelical Christian and still be a good person.
‘Good’ defined as loving and kind to others, responsible and looking for the best in anyone you meet. Giving a crap.
Honestly, y’all, he seems to meet those characteristics.
And I say this as a nonChristian.
However… his fanatical nutcase Christian following… them?
Uh, not so much.
why would it be cool? i wouldn’t think that it’s interesting, novel, or particularly engaging that there’s a gay christian. why would it be funny? if it did end up coming out that he was gay, could you imagine the insane amount of turmoil and scrutiny he would go through? it’d make the negative attention he’s receiving now seem trivial in comparison. i just think this entire premise and impetus of this thread is rakishly immature and ridiculous.
